The North Face: Never Stop Exploring Speaker Series   --  Hilaree O'Neill: The Road Not Taken  --- Tuesday,  September 11 - 7:00pm    FREE tickets available

Hilaree O'niell

In 2012, Hilaree O'Neill climbed Everest and its neighbor, Lhotse, within 24 hours.  In doing so, she joined an elite group of alpinists who possess the endurance to link two 8,000-meter peaks in a single push and became sole the woman to accomplish this feat.  Hilaree is the mother of two young boys, whom she and her husband raise in the high mountains of Telluride, Colorado.  Named by Outside Magazine as one of the most adventurous women in sports, she has skied from the 8,000-meter Himalayan summit of Cho Oyu in Tibet, throughout the Andes, on volcanoes in the Kamchatka Peninsula of Russia, and in the tight couloirs of Baffin Island.  Through mountain exploration and skiing, Hilaree has truly lived the dream!

Get all the details and your free general admission tickets at: www.thenorthface.com/speakerseries   Reserved seating and VIP reception tickets are also available for a fee on The North Face website.

VIP Reception after the event at Midwest Mountaineering – come meet Hilaree.  Tickets available for the reception on The North Face website.  Funds raised by the reception benefit sending economically disadvantaged kids to Camp Menogyn.  Post show party and The North Face shopping event at Midwest Mountaineering after the show!   Cowles Auditorium, Humphrey Center, U of M (across street from store)

ReelRockFilmTour2012-211x200.jpg

Midwest Mountaineering hosts and Gore-Tex, Windstopper and The North Face present the 7th annual Reel Rock Film Tour.  Reel Rock delivers the year’s most exciting climbing and adventure films to audiences in the United States, Canada, and Chile.

Reel Rock founders Josh Lowell and Peter Mortimer have been filming stunning climbs and adventures for over a decade.  This year co-founders Sender Films and Big UP Productions are featuring Alex Honnold's Yosemite rampage.  In one season Honnold has re-defined 50 years of Yosemite climbing standards by smashing the Nose record, free climbing miles of rock with Tommy Caldwell, and, to cap it all off, making the unimaginable 19 hour solo link-up of Watkins, Half Dome and El Capitan (7,000 vertical feet) in a day.

Same films both nights.  Trailers available at  reelrocktour.com

Local Sponsors:  Five-Ten, Gear Junkie, Northeast Community Chiropractic

Lots of valuable door prizes!

Thursday, September 27  7:00pm The Science of Exercise Physiology & Nutritional Demand during Specific Activities
Unlike any other class on physical activity and nutrition, this class clarifies the science of fuel substrate utilization by illustrating how the body 'selectively burns macronutrients' just as a Toyota Prius utilizes either more or less electricity or gasoline relative to work rate, speed, or intensity level. Using specialized props to illustrate: the laws of thermodynamics, glycogen depletion, and metabolic demand in the human body, exercise physiologist Ed Watson demonstrates how these principles universally apply to athletes, diabetics, sedentary people, and all fitness oriented endeavors.  Expedition Room, Midwest Mountaineering

Saturday, September 29 - 3:00pm – 8:00pm  Among the Wild Fundraiser
Stop by the Minnehaha Park bandstand for beer, music, gear giveaways, a fun race event and more at the Among the Wild Fundraiser, presented by Adventure Minnesota Films.  A documentary in the making, Among the Wild is a film project that aims to promote outdoor adventure sports in Minnesota by featuring local athletes in fierce pursuit of their chosen sport.  Nominations for talent were collected throughout the spring and four will be selected to be a part of the final short film series.  Winners will be announced at the fundraiser.  Program will be at 6:00p.m., preceded by a fun race event (where you may find hidden gear!) and followed by a band and beer garden.  For more information, visit amongthewild.com.  Minnehaha Park, Minneapolis
