Autumn Edition October in all it's glory is here. Pumpkins on every corner. The furnace struggling to life sends out its first dusty burst of warm air. Our favorite comfort foods (Pot roast? Meatloaf? Green Bean Casserole?) appear about the same time as our favorite sweater. With the season change comes a new Hoigaard's. We have morphed from a bike/camp shop at the end of a long summer season to a fully stocked, robust winter ski and snowboard retailer, ready and willing to take on a blustery, snowy Minnesota winter. Winter is coming and we are ready. (Wild Mountain opened October 7th, making it the first area in North America to open for skiing and snowboarding!) _______________________________________________________________  Hoigaard's Annual Kid's Sale! Tuesday, October 30, Centennial Lakes Park, Edina Our last nordic walk of 2012! Join us for the invigorating sport of Nordic Walking! We meet at 6:00 pm each week. Whether you are a new walker or been doing it forever, we'd love to have you join us. Reservations are not necessary, just show up with comfortable walking shoes. We will help you get started, we always have poles for you to borrow, and yes, you can bring the man in your life. In the case of questionable weather call 952.426.7031 after 4pm for an update. Nordic Strength and Conditioning with Audrey Weber  October 11th-November 15th Thursdays 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm Registration Balance Nordic presents Birkie champion Audrey Weber's 6-week, pre-season strength and conditioning class. Prepare yourself for the upcoming Nordic season. Audrey's workouts build strength, improve technique and build cardio/metabolic endurance. Training will be tailored to individual goals and expertise. If you are a beginner, Audrey can prepare your mind and body for the challenges of learning to ski. If you are a veteran, she can help take you to the next level of expertise. Get in on this amazing opportunity to work with one of the country's best athletes and emerging coach!  Salomon Autumn Trail Running Series October 17 at 6:00pm Last race of the series. Hyland Park Reserve, Bloomington MN Meet at Quality Bicycle Products, 6400 W 105th St, Bloomington (view map) A trail running series that meets on Wednesday nights to run Hyland Park. The race course is a large clockwise loop through the park around the Hill, Lake, and Oak Knob Trails for a total of 5.7k. Snacks will be provided following each race and weekly prize drawings include swag and apparel from Salomon (shoes given away weekly!), Hoigaards and other sponsors. Sunday, October 21 - 11am to 7pm Join Hoigaard's as we kick off the season at the 6th Annual Minnesota Ski & Snowboard Expo, once again at the Mall of America! More info below. The Baker Boo!  Saturday & Sunday, October 20 & 21 Hours of Halloween fun as you spend a spooky night at Baker Park. Play games of skill, carve a pumpkin, make a scarecrow, or make your way through the maze. Try scaling the climbing wall. Decorate your campsite and march in the costume parade. Trick-or-Treat from door to door through the "Baker Boo Neighborhood". The evening will be filled with campsite awards and door prizes sponsored by Hoigaard's. Evening entertainment will be an interactive music and live animal show by KidPower with Rachel.  Hoigaard's After Hours with Balance Nordic Training for a Nordic Endurance Event Tuesday, October 23 at 7:00 pm When the doors close, the fun begins. At these events Balance Nordic and Hoigaard's combine forces to bring you after-hours fun. We meet other skiers, listen to guest speakers and sample great craft beer! This week we have Greg Rhodes, Professional Nordic Coach, presenting "Training for a Nordic Endurance Event" Learn the ins and outs of a well-designed training program from one of the county's best. Ticket Information X-C Waxing Basics Tuesday, October 30 at 6:30 pm Join us as we take the mystery out of nordic waxing! A great primer for new skiers and for those wishing to brush up on their waxing knowledge. Learn how to improve your glide and strengthen your kick with the right waxes. Our waxing pros will help you develop a good understanding of the waxing process. Learn how ski flex and snow conditions affect your waxing decisions. Flat Tire Clinics - By Appointment Be Prepared for Flats! Are you prepared if you're bicycling a long way from nowhere and your tire goes flat? By appointment our bike shop will teach the basic skills necessary to get your tire repaired and rolling again. For $15 you'll receive instruction on how to remove the wheel, patch the tube and re-attach the tire to the rim. The fee includes a tube for your bike and the tire irons to remove the tire. Ladies Night Out at Hoigaard's Friday, November 9, 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm Get ready for winter with our annual Fall Ladies Night Out at Hoigaards. The evening will feature clinics on XC Waxing, Wide and Rockered Skis, Snowshoeing, and the new Fischer Downhill Boots with heat moldable shells. There will be information and registration about upcoming events: Women's Expo, Romp to Stomp, Big Sky Trip, and HOW plans for winter. Special guests will be Ski Away and Wings for Women.
