Post-Birkie Blast at Delafield
Brewhaus Saturday

The Doc and The Front Band are coming to the Delafield Brewhaus this Saturday, March 1 to rock the post-Birkie bash you missed because you were too pooped to party at the Sawmill after the race.  The Brewhaus is a great venue that serves awesome beers.  There is no cover charge and the band will play from 9:30 pm to 1:30 am.  Be there to swap war stories with other survivors.

Post-Birkie Blowout Sale

Maybe you've had enough of winter or can't get enough of winter, but you can almost steal skis, boots, wax and accessories to use this season or next at the Doc's Post-Birkie Blowout Sale prices.

You can walk away with skate or classic Rossignol X-IUM skis, regular price $699.99 for $499.99 or Rossi Delta skis, regularly $374.99, now $249.99.  And Rossignol X-IUM skate or pursuit boots were regular price $509.99 and are now $349.99.

You'll find all Bjorn Dahle clothing is 35% off and wax and accessories are 20% off including Start Terva waxes that had the Doc bomber kicking the hills and gliding with the skaters in the Birke.

Great Skiing in the Kettle Moraine

We've been skiing for nearly three months and it looks like we'll be gliding right into spring.  It's some of the most delightful skiing of the year as this photo from Lapham Peak shows.  Work on your technique, soak up the sun on the long days and live life large.  CLICK HERE for local skier and groomer trail reports.  CLICK HERE for the Skinny Ski skier reports from around the upper Midwest.

Free Ski Lessons

Here's your last shot at free ski lessons next Tuesday, March 4th at the Evergreen Shelter at Lapham Peak at 7 pm.  Due to the earlier cancellations because of wind and cold the lessons will be offered one more time.  Equipment rentals are available at Bicycle Doctor.

9th Annual Spring Bike Swap March 15

It's time to start rummaging in the garage or basement now to turn your unused or unwanted bikes, gear or whatever into dollars while helping raise funds for Lapham Peak snowmaking at the Spring Bike Swap, Saturday, March 15.  You can pick up great deals on bike stuff at Cushing Park Elementary School in Delafield between 9 am and 1:30 pm.  Free helmets will be given to the first 25 children ages 3 to 13 when buying a bike.

While man-made snow did not save our ski season this year, the extra early weeks of skiing got us more ready for some very tough long distance events this winter.  Next year may be a different story.  On top of that we are still skiing on it and may be until who knows when.  CLICK HERE   for more info on the Bike Swap.

Gimme Shelter at McMiller

If you skied the excellent trails at McMiller Sports Center this winter you enjoyed some of the best conditions in memory.  You also found a new trailhead and an open all week FEMA-type trailer shelter and a porta.

If you missed the nice shelter shared with the shooting range, that has only been open on weekends in recent years, you can get behind the effort to raise money to build a better shelter for XC skiers at the new location.  An anonymous donor has pledged $10,000 in matching funds if reached by April 1.  No April Fool here, it's for real.

To kick in mail checks made out to WI DNR to Kettle Moraine State Forest - Southern Unit, S91 W39091 State Hwy 59, Eagle, WI 53119 or email [email protected] for more info.

Thank You to Doc Staff & Trail Groomers

They sure were busy.  Great snow means lots of work for the people who kept the trails in as good a shape as you would find anywhere in the world.

And thanks ot the Bicycle Doctor Nordic Ski Shop staff who kept the boards gliding.  Many skiers took advantage of pre-Birkie glide wax jobs that kept Harry hopping.  Thanks to all.

1975 XC Skiing Video

It's nearly 40 years old, but this entertaining and instructive John Caldwell video shows that classic XC has not changed much.  Neither has the fun and exhilaration.  Synthetic skis were brand new and you'll spot at least one pair of woodies.  No system boot/bindings yet.  Two of the skiers are Martha Rockwell and Tim Caldwell, among the first Americans to acheive international success.  CLICK HERE to see the good old days.

Happy trails,
The Doc
