Seeking XC ski instructors for Loppet Adult XC Ski School. Minimum 16 years of age. Previous high school, college xc ski program experience or PSIA/USSA certification preferred. Deadline is Nov. 1st.
- Assistant Nordic Coach: St. Paul Academy and Summy School (St. Paul, MN):
Nordic Varsity Assistant Coaching position available at St. Paul Academy and Summit School for the 2015-2016 ski season. This coach will work with varsity skiers on speed and technique and should be available from 3 to 6 days/week. Varsity practices run from 3:20 to 5:30 pm M-F with additional Saturday morning practices during most of the season. The team competes in the IMAC conference and usually practices at Como and Battle Creek. The season runs from Nov. 7 through mid-February. SPA is located near Macalester College in St. Paul. The Ride and Glide Ski Club is looking for experienced coaches to teach classic and skating techniques at our two venues (Lake Elmo and Elm Creek) this winter. The commitment is to coach on Tuesday evenings from early November until the end of February.

- Part-time Nordic Assistant Director: Snow Mountain Ranch (Granby, CO):
Snow Mountain Ranch YMCA (near Winter Park, CO) has a world class Nordic Center at 8750 elevation with over 100km of groomed trails near the continental divide. Support a healthy spirit, mind, and body! Working with the Nordic Director, you'll train, schedule, and supervise Nordic Center staff and volunteers, scheduling ski lessons as well as on demand events, maintain inventory control, and supervise daily shop operations. Position is October to April. Pay is hourly DOE, plus all meals, lodging, internet, YMCA of the Rockies membership (including free access to major Colorado ski resorts on your days off) is included. We have zero tolerance for drugs (including marijuana), whether on- or off-duty.
- Nordic Center Worker: Snow Mountain Ranch (Granby, CO):
Snow Mountain Ranch YMCA (near Winter Park, CO) has a world class Nordic Center at 8750 elevation near the continental divide. Support a healthy spirit, mind, and body! You'll work in our Nordic Center shop, running the cash register, assisting with rentals, waxing skis, and teaching classic and/or skate skiing on our 100km of classic/skate trails. Pay is $180/week in addition to all meals, lodging, YMCA of the Rockies membership (including free access to major Colorado ski resorts on your days off) is included. We have zero tolerance for drugs (including marijuana), whether on- or off-duty.
- Groomer/Snowmobile Operator : Snow Mountain Ranch (Granby, CO):

Walter Spidahl Passes On

Walter Spidahl, skiing pioneer in western Minnesota, passed away last week. Walt was the founder of Spidahl Ski Gaard trail system, worked for Northland Ski Company, was president of the Fergus Falls Ski Club, and helped open Hallaway Hill ski area near Pelican Rapids in the 1950s.

Norm Oakvik, Minnesota Nordic Pioneer, Passes Away

Norm Oakvik, one of the true pioneers of Nordic skiing in Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday. Oakvik was a founding member of the North Star Ski Touring Club, for a time sold imported Nordic skis out of his house before the industry took off, and coached Junior National teams, as well as the University of Minnesota. He was given the lifetime achievement award by MNSA, and has had trails named in his honor at Theodore Wirth. No plans for a memorial service at this time.

The Star Tribune published a long obituary for John Burton, recapping his career and family. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Dec 27th, 11 am, at Plymouth Congressional Church in Minneapolis.
John Burton Passes Away

Olympian John Burton passed away on Friday, he was 91 years old. Burton competed in the 1952 Olympics, and was still racing in the Twin Cities as recently as the 2000s, including the 2006 City of Lakes Loppet tour.
Update: There will be a memorial service at 11:00 on Saturday, December 27th at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1900 Nicollet Avenue, Minneapolis.
Cycling Innovator Steve Hed Passes Away

Steve Hed, founder of Hed Cycling, passed away on Tuesday. Hed developed groundbreaking designs in bicycle wheel designs, building the company into a major international brand while remaining based out of the Twin Cities. No details yet on funeral services.
