The two school programs train together and compete at the conference level. They compete separately at the Section level. 80% of the skiers are young women so a female assistant is top priority. The Bloomington Nordic Ski Team has a boys and girls assistant coaching position open for the 2013-2014 season. Dryland training starts Nov. 11th and will be conducted at Jefferson High School or Hyland downhill ski area. On snow practices occur mainly at Hyland Park Reserve. Practices run from 3:00 – 5:00 every weekday and on occasional Saturday mornings. Our team size ranges from 30 – 40 enthusiastic skiers. Responsibilities will include after school practices and attending ski meets. Applicants with some ski experience in both classic and skate technique,willing to wax ski’s and helping to manage a diverse group are encouraged to apply. Peter Hale, the long-time face of Madshus in the US, passed away on Sunday. Hale was a friendly and generous soul with many connections in the Midwest, and will be sorely missed. No details yet on services.

Dick Hedenstrom Passes Away

One of the legendary Midwest skiers, Dick Hedenstrom, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday evening. Hedenstrom, 79, was still one of the top skiers especially in his age class. Well loved in the Twin Cities community, he will be sorely missed.
Service: Wed Oct 16th: Reviewal 9 to 11 am, Funeral at 11 am, at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection at the corner of County Road D and Victoria in Roseville (due to construction, use Victoria, not County Road D to reach the church).

CXC posts that John Hugus, well known within the Nordic skiing community in Wisconsin, Junior Olympics, and a member of the Board of Directors of CXC, has passed away. Arrangements being handled by Peterson/Kraemer Funeral with visitation in Wausau Thursday evening, service Friday afternoon at Nine Mile ski chalet.

Don Wolter Passes On

Larry Myers shares: Don Wolter passed away unexpectedly last Thursday May 30th while visiting his son Michael and family in Sun Valley, ID. Don was actively involved in the ski community as a coach, racer and volunteer. He had a vast number of friends and he will be missed by many. There will be a memorial for Don at the Plymouth Creek Center, Plymouth, MN on Sunday June 30th at 3 pm.

Lars Kindem Passes Away

2004 MSHSNSCA Hall of Fame inductee Lars Kindem passed away last Saturday, January 26th. Kindem was a highly successful and groundbreaking coach in the Minneapolis high school system, collecting three state championships and starting the first high school girls ski team in the State of Minnesota. Funeral will be Feb 9th at St. John's Lutheran Church, in Northfield, MN.
