Duties include: Nordic ski instruction (beginner to advanced but mostly beginner) in both classic and skate, servicing cabins, starting fires in wood stoves, keeping hole open in lake on weekends for sauna activities, shoveling snow, possible grooming, renting skis and snowshoes, kitchen help (food prep and serving guests) and ski waxing. Minneapolis South Nordic team is seeking an assistant coach to work with an enthusiastic and supportive team of 80+ skiers. The Star Tribune published a long obituary for John Burton, recapping his career and family. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Dec 27th, 11 am, at Plymouth Congressional Church in Minneapolis.

Olympian John Burton passed away on Friday, he was 91 years old. Burton competed in the 1952 Olympics, and was still racing in the Twin Cities as recently as the 2000s, including the 2006 City of Lakes Loppet tour.
Update: There will be a memorial service at 11:00 on Saturday, December 27th at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1900 Nicollet Avenue, Minneapolis.
Cycling Innovator Steve Hed Passes Away

Steve Hed, founder of Hed Cycling, passed away on Tuesday. Hed developed groundbreaking designs in bicycle wheel designs, building the company into a major international brand while remaining based out of the Twin Cities. No details yet on funeral services.

Conrad Hoigaard passed away last Friday, June 27th. He was the grandson of CJ Hoigaard, who founded Hoigaards in 1895. Conrad took over the reigns of Hoigaards from his father in 1984.

Robin Baker Passes On

Long-time coach for Deer River High School, Robin Baker passed away last week. Baker played a steady role in northern Minnesota skiing, especially with section 7 and 8, and was the groomer of Blueberry Hills ski trail. There will be a memorial service at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cohasset, Saturday, April 19th.

While the details are still unclear, Igor Badamshin passed away suddenly on Friday in Hayward. Badamshin was the CXC Team Head Coach and Knicker Nordic Head Coach (Wausau), a Russian Olympian, and bronze medalist on the 1993 World Championship relay team. Last March he help lead the Midwest Junior National team to success as the head kick wax coach. Updates forthcoming...
