    The Loppet Foundation is seeking candidates to join their team taking up the role of Sponsorship, Marketing and Public Relations Manager.

  • Media/PR Director: American Birkebeiner (Hayward, WI):
    The American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation is seeking candidates for the role of media/event promotion director. Position would be heavily involved in many parts of the Birkie operation and overseeing much of the published information. Application deadline is April 17th.

  • Head Nordic/Cross-Country Coach: University of Fairbanks-Alaska (Fairbanks, Alaska):
    The University of Fairbanks-Alaska is seeking candidates for the post of head coach for cross-country running and Nordic skiing. Application deadline is March 27th.

  • Communications and Media Coordinator: CXC (Verona, WI):
    Central Cross Country Ski Association is looking for Communications and Media Coordinator.

  • Assistant Nordic Ski Coach: Minneapolis South High School (Minneapolis, MN):
    Minneapolis South Nordic team is seeking an assistant coach to work with an enthusiastic and supportive team of 80+ skiers. Practice runs from mid-Nov to mid-Feb, 3:30 to 5:30 weekdays and 10-noon Saturday at Theodore Wirth. Interested coaches should be able to attend practice 3-6 days per week.   • Nordic Ski Instructors and Coaches: Soldier Hollow Resort (Midway, UT):
    Soldier Hollow Resort, located in Midway, UT, is seeking cross-country ski instructors and coaches for the 2014-15 winter season. Soldier Hollow, home of the 2002 Olympic cross country and biathlon events, is a full service Nordic center with 31km of trails, ski rentals, and lessons.     One Asst. Nordic Ski Coach for Chanhassen-Chaska High Schools for the 2014-2015 ski season. To work primarily with the girls varsity ski team. Must have strong teaching skills, ability to ski with top girls, and a comprehensive understanding of both classic and skating techniques. The American Birkebeiner is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic individual to take on the role of media/event promotions. Experienced, highly skilled individuals are encouraged to apply before the April 17th deadline.

Walter Spidahl Passes On
March 15, 2015
Walter Spidahl, skiing pioneer in western Minnesota, passed away last week. Walt was the founder of Spidahl Ski Gaard trail system, worked for Northland Ski Company, was president of the Fergus Falls Ski Club, and helped open Hallaway Hill ski area near Pelican Rapids in the 1950s.

Norm Oakvik, Minnesota Nordic Pioneer, Passes Away
February 4, 2015
Norm Oakvik, one of the true pioneers of Nordic skiing in Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday. Oakvik was a founding member of the North Star Ski Touring Club, for a time sold imported Nordic skis out of his house before the industry took off, and coached Junior National teams, as well as the University of Minnesota. He was given the lifetime achievement award by MNSA, and has had trails named in his honor at Theodore Wirth. No plans for a memorial service at this time.

Obituary: John Burton
December 12, 2014
The Star Tribune published a long obituary for John Burton, recapping his career and family. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Dec 27th, 11 am, at Plymouth Congressional Church in Minneapolis.

John Burton Passes Away
December 6, 2014
Olympian John Burton passed away on Friday, he was 91 years old. Burton competed in the 1952 Olympics, and was still racing in the Twin Cities as recently as the 2000s, including the 2006 City of Lakes Loppet tour.
Update:  There will be a memorial service at 11:00 on Saturday, December 27th at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1900 Nicollet Avenue, Minneapolis.

Cycling Innovator Steve Hed Passes Away
November 26, 2014
Steve Hed, founder of Hed Cycling, passed away on Tuesday. Hed developed groundbreaking designs in bicycle wheel designs, building the company into a major international brand while remaining based out of the Twin Cities. No details yet on funeral services.

NNF: Drive for 25 Seeking Ambassadors for Matching Challenge Grant

The National Nordic Foundations fundraising drive has received a matching grant of $5000, which they can earn simply by signing up additional ambassadors for the D25 drive. Please help support this organizer, which in turn funds much of the national and international junior development opportunities.

Jessie Diggins Fundraiser Dinner Nov 9th

The Chilkoot Café and Cyclery in Stillwater will once again host a fundraiser dinner for Olympian, World Champion and US Ski Team member, Jessie Diggins. Reserve Sunday, November 9th on your calendar and call to book your tickets. All proceeds will support Jessie's training and racing expenses. In addition to an evening of wonderful food and great race stories from Jessie, Jessie will be auctioning off some Olympic gear!

Birkie Board Member Dave Nelson Passes Away
October 8, 2014
Dave Nelson, a huge supporter of the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation who worked extensively on the trail network passed away Wednesday morning. Details on arrangements pending. Updated with funeral arrangements and memorial funds.

Conrad Hoigaard Passes On
July 4, 2014
Conrad Hoigaard passed away last Friday, June 27th. He was the grandson of CJ Hoigaard, who founded Hoigaards in 1895. Conrad took over the reigns of Hoigaards from his father in 1984.

Robin Baker Passes On
April 14, 2014
Long-time coach for Deer River High School, Robin Baker passed away last week. Baker played a steady role in northern Minnesota skiing, especially with section 7 and 8, and was the groomer of Blueberry Hills ski trail. There will be a memorial service at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cohasset, Saturday, April 19th.
