  • Director of Ski Operations: Leo J Martin Ski Track (Weston, MA):
    Metro Boston's Leo J Martin Ski Track (LJM), managed by the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), seeks a Director of Ski Operations. The position is a 6-month seasonal position, with potential future opportunities for year-round employment. The LJM Director of Ski Operations will plan, coordinate, and direct the operations of the cross-country ski track including snowmaking, grooming, race course set-up, coordination with user groups, marketing and community outreach, and special events. Located just outside Boston in the suburb of Weston, MA, LJM is one of the busiest cross country ski areas in the country. The facility is home to: Cambridge Sports Union (CSU); Harvard's ski team; the largest youth ski program in New England (Eastern Mass Bill Koch); youth programs through Boston Youth Enrichment Services (YES) and the Boys & Girls Club; adaptive ski programs; and more than a dozen high school cross-country ski teams. LJMs 15km trail system has long featured extensive snowmaking as well as lighting for night-time skiing. Over the past year substantial additional investments have been made in snowmaking, grooming, and lighting.   • Assistant Trail Manager: American Birkebeiner (Hayward, WI):

The Assistant Trail Manager is responsible to and directly supervised by the ABSF Trail Manager. The position is full time and the Assistant Trail Manager will be responsible for supporting the year around maintenance and grooming of the Birkie Trail system by ABSF trail staff and volunteers.

  • Head Nordic Coach: College of St. Scholastica (Duluth, MN):
    The College of St. Scholastica, an NCAA Division III institution located in Duluth, Minnesota, invites applications for the position of Nordic Skiing Head Coach. This is a full-time, 12-month per year position. The Head Coach is expected to oversee the planning, development and management of the Nordic Skiing program. The coach plays the pivotal leadership role within the program and must be successful in engaging a wide diversity of internal and external community members to advance the collective goals of the program within the larger framework of advancing the College's Catholic Benedictine heritage, values, and strategic priority of becoming a more diverse and inclusive campus community.

  • Head Nordic Coach: McCall Winter Sports Club (McCall, ID):
    The McCall Winter Sports Club (MWSC is a member club in the Intermountain Division) is looking to fill a Head Nordic coaching position. The MWSC is a combined Nordic, Alpine, and Big Mountain program that is based in the mountains of McCall, Idaho. Currently, the Nordic Program has approximately 70 participants that are supported by a core group of assistant coaches and parent volunteers.

  • Assistant Nordic Ski Coach: Chanhassen and Chaska High School (Chaska, MN):
    Chanhassen and Chaska High Schools are looking for a female Assistant Nordic Ski Coach. 70% of our rapidly growing ski program consists of females. We are searching for a female with solid racing experience, technical skills, and the ability to identify technical problems and remediate them with simple clear instruction. This coach should be available from 2:30 PM until 6:00 PM Monday through Friday, and every other Saturday for two hours in the morning. We have excellent waxing facilities (Nordic club house) where we can wax 22 pair of skis at a time, , strong school district support, and our own Scandic, track setter, and roller. Our girls team won the conference championship this season and we will have a very strong team this coming year. Deb Ernst Passes Away

Deb Ernst, active member of the Green Bay area silent sports community, and wife and partner to InCompetition's Mark Ernst, passed away on Tuesday, May 3rd. There will be a memorial service Saturday May 7th, at Saint Louis Church in Dykesville.

MNSA Lifetime Achievement Awards Program Coverage
April 9, 2016
A big turnout Saturday afternoon at the Vasaloppet Nordic Center for the MNSA Lifetime Achievement Awards Program. Jessie Diggins was the guest speaker and kicked the program off with a presentation on her racing career and all the people and organizations that helped make her so successful. Past Lifetime Achievement awardees were recognized, then Bob Montebello, currently the oldest active ski trail groomer in North America, was honored as the 2016 award winner. The afternoon wrapped up with posthumous recognition of 12 great heroes in Minnesota skiing history: Nikolai Anikin, Robin Baker, Charlie Banks, John Burton, Earle Dickinson, Tim Knopp, Jinny McWethy, Brother Jerome Rademacher, Toni St. Pierre, Al Waverek, and Don Wolter.

DXC Snow Ball Gala Recap

Duluth XC held this first annual Snow Ball Gala last weekend to a sold out audience. They honored a number of individuals including Nordic legend George Hovland, as well as high school skiers of the year, Anja Maijala and Sam Olson. The gala also generated more awareness and interest in the ongoing capital campaign to improve facilities and add snowmaking trails in Duluth.

Karl Andresen Passes On
January 7, 2016
Karl Andresen, one of the Nordic pioneers of western Wisconsin, especially the Eau Claire area, passed away earlier this month. Andresen was only of the original Birkie founders, tallying up 30 years before hanging up the skis in 2003. A celebration of life for Karl will be held this Saturday, Jan 9 at Stokes, Prock and Mundt Funeral Chapel in Altoona, WI.

Memorial Service For Daniel Johnson

Daniel Johnson, heavily involved in western Wisconsin cycling, as well as ski grooming and volunteering at the Birkie, passed away earlier this month. There will be a memorial service next Saturday, Aug 29th, in Frederic, WI.
