The splendor of snow, ice and Mountains
Monday, December 4th at 7 PM

A great presentation for the winter and backcountry enthusiast. Professor Dr. Heinz Slupetzky from the University of Salzburg will share insights from his years of researching snow, ice, and glaciers. The presentation will include photographic highlights taken by this passionate geographer and glacier researcher. His research and travel have taken him from the Alps to the Rockies and the Himalaya. Increase your knowledge of the winter and the alpine landscape.

Outdoor photographer Craig Blacklock is one of Minnesota's most celebrated photographers. Craig will share slides from his two books, Border Country: Photographs from the Quetico-Superior Wilderness and The Lake Superior Images. The books capture images of the rugged wilderness of the Minnesota-Ontario border and the raw beauty of the greatest of the Great Lakes. The presentation will include slides, a question and answer session and a book signing.

WOLVES OF MINNESOTA - Dr. David Mech & Nancy Gibson

Renowned wolf expert Dr. David Mech will be in-store to sign copies of the latest edition of Wolves of Minnesota: Howl in the Heartland. The book is an authoritative account of the wolf in Minnesota. Nancy Gibson co-founder of the International Wolf Center will talk about the life of a wolf, address why Minnesota has been a focal point of wolf research and introduce a live Arctic Wolf! A great educational talk for all ages.

WINTER CAMPING 101

This is a clinic to help add another season to your camping adventures. An REI employee will share trip-tested information on dressing to stay warm and selecting equipment appropriate for winter use. Experience how serene the backcountry can be without the crowds and mosquitoes.

INTRO TO ICE CLIMBING
Wednesday, December 13th at 7 PM
REI Bloomington

REI employee Chris Klein will present this clinic on climbing vertical ice. Chris will discuss the equipment needed to get on and up ice in a safe manner. The clinic will include suggestions on popular local and regional ice climbing destinations. Arm yourself with the knowledge and tools to make the most out the sub zero temperatures.

CLASSES

WEDNESDAY NIGHT CLIMBING CLASSES

The class is an introductory course taught by a certified Vertical Endeavors instructor. The lesson will cover equipment selection, knot tying, belay technique, rope work, climbing commands, and safety issues. The course fee is $20 for REI members, $25 for non-members, and includes the use of climbing shoes and a harness. Classes are offered from 6PM - 9PM, every Wednesday night on the REI Pinnacle at the Bloomington store. All students must be at least 14 years of age. Advanced registration and payment is required.
