The Hoigaard's Paddle Derby (formerly the Canoe Derby) Is Coming Soon! Thursday, May 31st is the first race in our ten race series. Usual time, usual place, new name.
30 years ago the Derby was all about canoes, but that's not exactly true anymore. We are still a canoe race, but we realized that kayaks have become a large part of the Derby and stand-up paddleboards are expected to be big. So the Hoigaard's Canoe Derby is now the more inclusive Hoigaard's Paddle Derby. If you like, you can still call it "The Derby", or just "Hoigaard's". As we have since 1982 we'll meet at Thomas Beach on Lake Calhoun. Registration is 5:45 pm to 6:30 pm and the race starts at 6:45 pm. Join us every Thursday from May 31 through August 2. We welcome all paddlers, from rookies to pros, and Hoigaard's will bring a trailer of boats for those who need them.
