Midwest Junior Nationals Updates

Some updates on the Midwest Junior Nationals competition...

Snow Conditions at JN 2015

Midwest Head coach Chris Harvey reports:

Just got off a conf call with the JN race organizer's and USSA. There are no plans to move the race. There is snow there now and they are hosting a race today. Check out the Auburn Ski Club Facebook page for pictures and regular updates.

They are focusing all their effort on a 3.5km loop, stadium, and small warmup area. They are hauling snow there and have abandoned some trails to stock piling snow into piles in the shade. The nearby alpine hill is also planning to blow snow into piles for them if it gets cold enough. They are also pulling snow off the parking lot piles to lay down first in some areas. If worst comes to worst they have been in talks with two alpine hills and have Mt Rose meadows they could run races (at 8500 ft!).

There is also a Junior Nationals 2015 Facebook page with regular updates.  Check the official JN 2015 website for details on the competition, courses, etc.

Team Information

The Midwest 2015 is expected to be quite large.  There is a quota of 21 boys and 21 girls for the Midwest team, but skiers pre-qualified are expected to raise the team total to around 55!   Check the current standings (skiers in yellow are pre-qualified, do not count against the quota numbers).  Read the Points Selection Criteria to help understand how skiers are chosen for the team.

The Midwest Junior National information page on CXC is updated.   You'll find info on the trip dates, flights, costs as well as all the paperwork.   There is a link for collecting the Junior National Team Member Form information that is required.

Team naming will be Sunday, Feb 15, after the sprint races at Theodore Wirth in the Par 3 Tent. Organizers believe they should have all the points calculated and ready to go at 5pm (Update: now scheduled for 3:30 pm).  Parents/athletes should have the necessary paperwork and financial arrangements at the announcement on Sunday.
