Vasaloppet USA Update: Nordic Center Trail system closed on Friday to preserve race course

Temperatures in Mora are forecast to be cooler Friday and Saturday than in the Twin Cities, according to the National Weather Service. Temps Friday afternoon will reach 38 degrees under partly cloudy skies. Trail crews say that forecast should not have an overly adverse affect on the race course, but noted the Nordic Center Trail system and other portions of the race course will be closed on Friday to preserve the course for Saturday’s races.

Trail crews have been making and hauling snow daily and have completed all but a last short section of trail. Very cold temperatures Tuesday night though very early Friday morning will provide prime snow making conditions. That snow will help fix-up any areas that require a bit more snow.

Temps at the start of the race are predicted to be just below freezing at 10:15am start with a high of 36 degrees under a mostly cloudy sky. Skiers should expect a solid course, but not icy—especially as the temperatures warm during the race.

The 42km race begins at 10:15, the 56km race starts at 10:30, the 28km begins at 10:45 and the 13km at 1:30.
