Birkie Thursday Update
2.23.17 (7:30am) - Trail & Event Update: Here is the latest update from Birkieland.
Barkie Birkie Canicross, Barnebirkie and Junior Birkie events are kicking off this morning at Hatchery Creek Park (NO parking at Hatchery Creek, ALL parking at Wesleyan Church). The Slumberland American Birkebeiner Expo opens at 1:00 PM (largest cross-country ski vendor show in the nation) and the Birkie Bash is tonight at the Steakhouse & Lodge.
If skiers want to ski today, Trail Manager Chris has opened the Birkie Trail from the OO Trailhead south. Please not, the trail is icy, thin and has bare spots. We recommend advanced skiers only - be very careful.
TIMETABLE for Saturday: We still cannot hold a ski event unless we get snow Friday, so we are in a wait and see mode on making that call. We will be meeting with trail staff, medical, security and race operations on Friday, assessing all aspects of the current situation, and making a call on what happens for Saturday's events.
