CONSTRUCTION ALERT FOR SKIERS AND HIKERS IN THE BROWNIE LAKE BASIN

A pedestrian bridge over the channel between Brownie Lake and Cedar Lake will be set in place this month as part of the Brownie Lake Site Improvements construction project (www.minneapolisparks.org/currentprojects). The pedestrian bridge will give hikers a continuous trail around the lake and has sufficient clearance beneath to allow kayakers/canoeists and skiers to access the channel/culvert which provides a water connection between Brownie and Cedar Lakes.

Last week, Blackstone Contractors built a snow road from Wayzata Boulevard into the Brownie Lake basin at the north end of the park. The snow road continues along the west and south shores of Brownie Lake and across the channel. The setting of the pre-fabricated bridge (90’ x 8’) will take one to two days and is scheduled for the week of February 17 or February 24, depending on weather and temperature conditions. The contractor will give the MPRB a one week notice for closure of the channel area.

Snow ramps up and over the construction road will be provided for skiers wherever the road intersects the ski/hiking trail.

Skiers and hikers are asked not to use the channel during the one to two days that the bridge is being set in place.
