Trail Reports

2017-2018 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 66    Month: Apr | Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Rock skis ]
The Highland 9 continues to be skiable. There are deep, firm tracks that work well in the afternoon and some shallower tracks that work better in the morning. The tracks still follow the old grooming with some necessary adjustments to avoid bare ground. I've been using fishscales.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Classic skiers have ventured out and created their own trails. They more or less follow the normal course, but with a few wrong turns. Other's tracks makes it ski-able -- but the sun has melted some areas in the tracks down to the grass. Heat also meant some sticking to skis at a few points. Due to no grooming, skate skiing is not really possible. Not ideal, but still good to get out.

Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The ground is bare under trees and at the top of a fee hills, however most of the loop is skiable and the few grassy sections are easy to skip or avoid. The snow is quite icy which makes it difficult to classic; many of the ruts are ice. However skate conditions are pretty good, even off of the groomed trails.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
It was 47 above from 3-4pm. Soft enough then to ski. But was a mix of mash potatoes and hard pack with a few areas with thin sheets of crust. The steepest down hill was mushy with thin crust in spots. It scared me off - kinda deep, afraid of getting trapped in a rut. Side stepped part way then let loose. There are NO bare spots. I'm glad I had a chance to try it!

Just finishing 3 laps and the trails are still very skiable! They were a bit icy and rutted but I'll take. 95% coverage.

We put our last groom of the season on the trail Monday morning. We will begin to pack up equipment and prepare for the coming golf season. The trails will remain open for now so feel free to enjoy.

Very good conditions, freshly groomed. Thanks Jeff for your grooming this year, widening the trail, is a nice improvement for the skating deck. Classic tracks are holding up, with the right wax or skis good conditions exist.

I was very surprised how good the conditions still are. Minimal bare spots that are easily avoided. Skate deck looked great but snow was very slow so switched to classic and my no wax skis had perfect kick and glide. Only a few others out when I skied. Take advantage of it for one last neighborhood ski!

Skated a few laps Wednesday night. Skate deck had 95% good coverage albeit a bit soft due to being groomed for the first time yesterday since the snowstorm. There were a few track marks from tree clearing and a few spots of ice. All things considered it is still great to be able to ski a few minutes from home.
