Coverage was very good, considering the amount of snow. The tracks were well set. There were occasional minor spots were dirt showed through. They were easy to avoid. Truly is a blue wax day.

Skied around noon, outer loop, and the tiny loop in the pines on the way back to the start. Mostly good coverage, but snow is soft and dry, so the tracks wash out in many places. Under the snow is solid ice, so the poles don't set solidly. There are places where some small twigs/plants poke up through the snow, and a number of places where dirt is showing in the tracks. There are two sets of tracks almost everywhere, so if you really care, and are paying attention, you can certainly avoid the dirt. And there are no places where the whole path is bare. You can just step out of the track for a moment. The wind was blowing pretty hard, and in the open places the tracks were filling in. I walked these paths last week before the snow, and they were solid, rough ice. Considering that we didn't get that much snow, I was very pleasantly surprised by how good the conditions were. I think the groomers did a great job with what they had to work with.

I skied Tamarack on both Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday, I created some of my own tracks in the new snow, but most of the trails had already been blazed before my arrival. Wednesday afternoon it appeared the the trails had been groomed. The tracks were very good with only a couple of minor grassy patches in some wind-exposed areas. There's not much snow depth, so my poles weren't biting into the ground very well, instead hitting either pavement of hard ice below the snow. I skied the entire trail system on Wednesday. Overall two nice late afternoon sessions.

At 3:30-4:15 today the trails were deteriorating. Some good sections but in other areas lots of stepping from track to track, or one ski in the track and the other out, or skiing along side the tracks on the edges. Wax-none. Tried a demo pair of Yoko Optigrip skis that had excellent kick on the whole course. In the soft snow, glide was just OK.

Double tracks set. Good snow depth but with occasional bumps of exposed soil. Disappointing amount of foot traffic all over the trails. Skied this hometown venue for 35 years so good to visit one of my old places still another year.
