2016-2017 season

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
There is about 3-5" powder over frozen ground, the coverage was surprisingly adequate. Blue skies and about 20 degrees. And there was a skied in track on just about all the trails that are skiable. Objectively I rate conditions as fair. Subjectively, considering no snow anywhere for the last ten or so days, I'd rate conditions as most excellent and for the most part I could suspend belief and pretend I was skiing powder on a deep base "up nort". Extra blue worked good.

[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Today's Dawn Patrol found skied in tracks on 3" powder on a base of dirt or a couple inches of hard pack where there was mainly northern exposure. I started on waxed skis but quickly switched to waxless due to the dirt. Waxless worked good with surprisingly decent glide. Ski experience varied from fair to good to okay time to turn around. All considered it was a good ski since I came up wondering if I could ski at all.

[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
I was the first one to arrive at the park today at 11:30 to find brilliant sunshine and about 5 inches of fresh great snow tracked by the local deer. It was cold. The snow was dense but not too dense so I bushwhacked out the King's Bluff Trail on waxless boards (caution this is not a ski trail and gneiss and other rocks can be an issue]. Superb if you like that kind of thing. Coming back my skied in tracks made the effort worthwhile - so much so that I skied the loop back twice. The road in is in decent shape. Reminder: this park has a cold snowy micro climate. In fact, I remember the Park brochures talking about several climate zones. But at the very end the tracks were getting mushy.

Some soft and some icy spots but overall skiable. Great views on a nice sunny day.
Probably ok for good skis unless you are super cautious.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
8" freshly groomed snow. Mostly good to very good hard fast tracks with a few icy spots and occasional debris. The off piste conditions are excellent. About as good as it gets up here. Access road has some icy spots and is occasionally narrow. So pay attention.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Freshly groomed deep and firm classic tracks. Mostly good to very good conditions with some minor glitches. The access road is snow covered and in good winter driving condition. I skied some of the south side and all of the north.

About 10 inches of ungroomed snow. I skied the King's Bluff trail and the rest of the north side. Mostly deep skied in tracks in pretty good shape. King's Bluff was mostly skied in with some foot traffic (at the entrance, you can only go so far hiking) and some very gnarly drifts. Rest of the north was mostly good track.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Seven inches of beautiful powder to start the season. I had first tracks, and even with wide backcountry skis was sinking deep. A few other skiers came out too, and there are now skier-set tracks on many, though not all, of the trails. Until the park entrance road is plowed (Monday?) high clearance / 4WD vehicles advised.
