Notes

Some of the best trails in southern Minnesota. Tucked in the valley behind the school, the trails run around the northern slopes of the valley making them quite challenging and also well protected from the sun. Some lighted sections, and snowmaking operations.

Some of the best skiing ever at St. Mary's! Skied classic in well formed tracks. Two or three spots where classic hit dirt, but still excellent skiing.

Excellent skiing today some of the best of the year. All the trails were groomed with classic tracks. New snow made for excellent classic skiing with good kick and glide. Probably some of the best skiing in the state right now. Thanks to the groomers for another great year of grooming.

Groomed up a 2.5 K figure 8 loop, using the inside loop of Orchard and the Lighted loop, this morning. One bad icy spot at the top of cow path that can be negotiated slowly. The only access is from Yon's field. All other trails are closed.

Grooming

The trails are wet, icy, very soft and in some areas not skiable. We will access the trail conditions to determine if it's appropriate to continue to groom. Upper Trail is closed due to very icy hills. The trails will be frozen in the morning, transition to soft conditions before turning to mush later in the day. The "Lighted Loop" is probably the best skiing; Yon's Valley is ok but many areas have ice. Please ski with great caution.

Skiing was very fast as I expected. The skating lane was easier to classic ski in. If it warms up, it will be more pleasant to ski. Just too darn fast for me!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Most trails were lightly groomed this morning around 7:30 to 9 AM. Warm temps overnight softened the snow but colder temperature after 9 AM has created some ice/crust on the snow. Downhills are fast but the sun later today will soften the snow and the skiing will be fair to good in most areas. With the warming and cooling, icy areas should be expected so ski with caution. Classic track is fair with obvious ice in the track.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All trails have been tilled with our Pisten Bully. The hard pack snow has been ground up and the result is good to excellent skate deck and a new classic track on all usual trails. Some areas the snow is not as smooth as some but the tilling and regrooming with our ginzue groomers did a great job.

Groomed the skate lane on most trails this morning. Good conditions, but our snow is getting a bit flat and fast. Some tree debris -- please flick a few off the trail. We need some new snow -- do your snow dance. We will groom again Sunday morning.
