Trail Reports

2015-2016 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 10    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Wednesday, March 2, 2016
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: fair-good for skate, not groomed for classic.
Dusting of new snow recently groomed on the yellow trail. There is some ice and boiler plate underneath especially noticeable going up the hills but overall you can get a decent edge. There is a couple areas where the snow is totally gone, but otherwise good coverage except under the usual areas with heavier tree cover.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Skate: very good, classic: mixed.
A couple inches of fresh snow from Tuesday has been groomed into a smooth, nicely textured skate deck. Classic track varies from non-existent to fresh but shallow. The base is very firm but thin, and grass is showing through in a few of the usual spots (easily avoided). Overall, very enjoyable!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Fair-Good. Recently groomed, very firm & slightly icy. Could use good skis if careful in a few spots.
Skied late afternoon. Most of the trails were in good condition with a very firm deck. The trails appeared to have been groomed the day before. There were several bad areas close to the trailhead, returning on Red Loop, where not enough snow gets down through the trees for trail coverage. Removing just several of these White Pines could really, really help, as one could easily damage a ski in these spots if not careful. The section of the "road" connecting to Yellow Loop and further south to Purple was only poor-fair also. However, overall it was really worth hitting the trails in Superior.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: 2" of fresh over a solid deck. Slow, quiet, wonderful.
Finally had a chance to get over to Sup Town. Had a great time skating in the fresh snow. There are a few thin spots but I didn't hit anything. Today's snow should really perk this system up!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle Observation
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Nice skating, and classic track set!
Freshly groomed skate lane on red, blue, green, and yellow trails. Looked like purple had been groomed as well but didn't investigate. Shallow classic track set and looked reasonable on most of the system (though some snow in the track on most of the yellow). Debris and low snow under trees still but mostly avoidable. Nice glide with the moderate temps.

Rolled with a skiff of snow on top. No classic tracks on the red, green, or blue loops. Tree debris under trees.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Skated the purple and yellow trails. Groomed yesterday for skate, no classic track. Conditions improved with relatively flat skate deck. There's still low snow conditions under some trees but overall coverage is much better with snow this week!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Good, although uneven.
Peninsula loop has been groomed. There are few dirty spots from tree detritus, but no rocks or dirt. A bit lumpy...but still worth it.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Snowmobile packed.
Somewhat disappointing conditions. Most trails packed only with snow machine so skating lane is soft and uneven. No classic track set. Grass and sticks poking through on most trails. Numerous footprints from walkers. A four wheeler also had driven on some of the blue and green trail leaving large ruts. Hopefully the city will get the groomer out and we will get some more snow to even things out.
