Firsthand: Classic Scheduling
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Getting down to the end of the season. The base is very thin and starting to break down. The tracks are thin and very icy. Chalet may be closed for the season, a typical closing in this area unless we get a big March dump. The groomers did an admirable job with tough conditions the last few weeks.

Surprised how good it was for skating - ample clean, soft snow (freshly groomed). Both the 20 and 10k loops have been re-routed on the snowmobile trail to bypass some bad sections, and the marsh loop is closed due to a stretch of open water - though I did ski back on this loop as far as possible, and that had been groomed up to the water. No telling how well the trails will survive the next thaw but they should be very good early tomorrow. Tracks had numerous bare spots, use caution if striding.

Regroomed today and some track set. Decent coverage and no rocks, but bottoms of tracks have frequent icy areas due to thawing from below. Should have good skiing, at least through Saturday.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Classic track was set today on most of the trail system after 2" of snow fell yesterday. Conditions as reported by skiers are good with some icy spots in low areas. We will groom the skate lanes again tomorrow.

[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Three inches of snow today. Skate lane dragged on inner trails, but not enough snow to reset tracks. Some tracks were skied in and quite good. Outer trails have some washout areas and are risky. Should have good skiing until next thaw.

Went out at 4:15 pm and was very pleased with the recently groomed trails. Used "B" skis but could have used good skis as the groomer worked wonders with the 2 to 2 1/2 inches of new snow we had received since yesterday. Clearly Nine Mile has a "grooming savant" addressing these trails. Yesterday at the same time there had been several large bare spots, requiring me to take off my "rock skis" and walk over them. I skied "Leo's Loop", "Y", and the open section of "T", then went back around "A" a couple of times for a little extra. All in all, it was a excellent March 1st skiing experience, a great workout, and peaceful and scenic.

Nine Mile is reopened. 7 inches of new snow over the survived trail base. Great fresh tracks. Skate lane soft in places. Some detours to avoid old puddles. Mostly very good skiing.

Classic skied the 10k loop. Had to reroute due to flooded trails so we did some of the 20k segments. Trails were groomed, however there were long sections that were not tracked for classic skiing. Mostly good snow with only a few icy spots.

Very pleased we will be able to re-open Saturday morning after a week of very warm weather. As of 10 a.m. Friday morning 6" of snow has fallen at Nine Mile. We are currently packing on the lighted loop and the 10K. Grooming will take place early Saturday morning and some of the trails will be open.
