Notes

The Mesabi Trail starts at the fairgrounds in Grand Rapids and passes through the Iron Range cities of Coleraine and Bovey before terminating in Taconite, approximately 13 miles from the start. (This trail will eventually (2002?) extend all the way up to Ely, 132 miles! There are various other portions of this trail completed at this time including sections near Hibbing and Virginia.) The Grand Rapids section of the trail mostly follows old mining roads and is not flat. It passes by several mine pit lakes and crosses over the Prairie River. (Submitted by Craig Stertz) Pros: Scenic and generally not much traffic. A variety of terrain. Cons: Occasional rocks due to (illegal) 4-wheeler traffic.
