Reports 1 to 10 of 20    Month: Jan | Dec

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skated the two longer loops. Can't comment on the short one. Decent. Glad to be out and definitely nice to avoid the crowds at Hyland for a bit. Icy base underneath but enough powder on top to get a decent edge throughout. Alert: for those who like chalet time, Cleary is under renovation. Rental, bathrooms and water are available inside but no lounging area.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Trails were being groomed this morning. Fresh corduroy (1") on top of a very firm (ice) base. Trail is wide with no tracks set yet. A couple areas where ice is showing through and minimal debris on the trail. The groomers did a great job with the little snow that we received on Wednesday.

Trails still holding up as of 9 AM. Trails were fast and showed little ice. Track was there but beginning to show washout in areas. No rocks popping through yet. Plan to start using rock skis on Friday until they close the course.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied 6:30-7:30pm, mixed bag, some icy spots, some perfect sections, some slow patches, overall not bad considering. Track looked icy. Depending on timing, should be able to get a couple of more days.

Trails were freshly groomed and tracked. Much better then expected with Monday night's freezing rain. Trails were slow with the 2 inches of sticky snow.

High 20s, overcast, my A-skis with Fastwax LF were quite fast, but there were plenty of twigs, some dirt, and exposed ice to dodge, so I'd recommend your better rock skis for the immediate future. Skated the outer loop sans Ironwood which is closed (which I'm still confused about after all these years as to just how long it really is, despite the map) and Lakeside loop, and parts of both were gorgeous, while more of it was fading away. A good "recovery" venue after two days at Baker. Mostly classic skiers making it around, on tracks that looked to vary from good to bare ice.

The Cleary Lake Trail report from the Three Rivers site says that the classic tracks are in poor condition but we disagree! We went tonight at about 7 pm and had a great ski. I would say it was fair or even good condition. We skied the lit trails and the only problem was the occasional leaf on the trail. No skate skiers passed us but it sure looked like the skate deck was in good condition. I used it for a few hill climbs and it was firm and not icy.

Nice conditions at 7:30 AM. Fresh corduroy and tracked trails! Groomers were still out there at 9 AM. Some debris on the trails (branches, leaves). Found one rock on an uphill but otherwise in good shape.

Skate deck was pretty good/groomed and skied in. Classic was shallow and washed out, track not completlely set yet. Nice full moon to ski under!

All trails in good condition for skate. The grooming was so good that I skied the unlit trails by moonlight tonight. Classical track was only set on one trail. Get out and ski while you can on these trails!
