[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
I skated the south loop which is ungroomed, 2 inches of loose snow some sticks. Saturday morning should be skiable, enjoy! I also mtb the burnt wagon and horseshoe lake loops between 8:45 and 10:00 am they were groomed and firm.

Ski trails are not groomed and didn't look to have been groomed since last week's snowfall and this week's for that matter. The fat bike trails are groomed and actually the middle of the ski trail on the connector trail was groomed with the fat bike width roller. The gentleman grooming the fat bike trail was just heading out when I got there. But for skiing, yes it's not that deep where it's not skiable but I personally wouldn't recommend it as I don't like fluff, but also rocks and sticks are covered up and many humps at bottoms of the hills are not covered risking breaking a ski. I skied to almost the north end of the south loop but turned around. Others ventured out further (one classic and one skate). Goodbye to skiing Hickory for the season. It's been fun.

Skied from about 11am-12:30. It was actually pretty nice. When I first got the the shaded parts of the trail were still crusted over but the parts in the sun were of course soft. Later during my ski it did get a bit softer. I was waxed with Toko yellow and still was able to cruze pretty good. Did Tram and North loop. There are a bare spots as expected but those were rather small. One this that surprised me was some debris on top of the trail that must have fallen in the wind a couple nights ago which is really the only reason I suggest rock skis. I think B skis would be just fine or even good skis for tomorrow I still think it would be skiable but put on your ultra warm weather wax and get out in the morning. I don't think it's a guarantee though. Seems like the north loop has a bit less snow than the south and even tram. 50/50 shot. But was really happy to get out there today.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Grooming was called off due to not enough material to work with. The conditions are icy and there are bare spots (not only associated with logged areas!). In the early mornings there may be opportunity for crust skiing off the trail.

Groomed Thursday night. Expect good track and skating. Skiers reported great conditions this week. Should be great today and into weekend.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skied in the afternoon both Saturday and Sunday. Some of the best snow of the year. Pretty fast, but not really cooking much when the sun hits which is a good thing. Must be because the air is drier. It must have been groomed today later morning because I noticed the trail was more even yesterday as compared to today. Tracks set on almost all of the trails (there was one spot I noticed on the north side there wasn't a track set, but maybe that was on an uphill). Note: one icy spot where the connector trail ends and the south/north loop begins, everything else great coverage.

I skated all the trails except the new little loop at the beginning. Good coverage on all trails with the groomer just leaving as I started. A few classic skiers skiing right up the middle of the skate lane thankfully did not leave big ruts. The snow was a bit slow but the sunny day and new snow made it a beautiful day. Get out and enjoy!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
After approximately 3" of new snow, the entire trail system was rolled yesterday. An additional inch or so of snow fell on that. The groomers are out today to re-set track and lay down the skate deck. Conditions are and will continue to be very good. The Dog-Island loop is open as is the warming house.

Hickory is in pretty great shape for skating especially given the obvious warm spell. Went out just before 8:30 this morning. It was freshly combed from the night before or right away in the morning. That little bit of snow may be our favorite local hilly course - safe enough on the downhills. Easily caught an edge. Tram look was in really good shape. Generally speaking the further north it was a bit better. No bare spots that I saw and only one small ice spot from an area that always seems to be wet all year on the south loop. Speaking of the south loop, the 1k on the north side of that loop wasn't groomed, but all other trails were. Personally I love these conditions firm, fast, but able to be safe and keep control. I used my A skis without getting any scratches but would recommend B skis just in case. An observation on the classic track...on the south side of Hickory it looked a bit icy. I do know that it was skied today by at least one person. I'm not an expert but would guess the use of rock classic skis. I would also recommend classic skiers use the parking lot on the north side by the dog island loop. Tracks looked like they were groomed on the trails but looked a lot more white and freshly set on the north side.
One other hearsay...sounds like another comb over was going to happen on the skate deck Sat evening. Happy skiing.
