Trail Reports

2015-2016 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 42    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Sunday, March 6, 2016
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Great coverage, sticky! 43 degrees and windy....temps didn't drop low enough last night to set up for fast conditions early today. Worth skiing.
With the forecast for the next week, today may have been the last run of the season at the RFC. Many thanks to the groomers for making the most of the thin snow coverage we had this season. Because of you we did enjoy 2+ months of solid skiing. And, also many thanks to the Project Illumination Sponsors! Many of us thoroughly enjoyed the new lighted loop. The RFC is now a destination ski location. As you will see in the pics, plenty of snow in woods.... who knows?! Carpe Skiem.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Good. " The Camp" received 2 inches of wet packy snow. All trails are covered. Skied from 2:30-4:30 pm in 37 degrees. Trail was sticky for skate throughout. Classic tracks were present and variable.
Trails were speeding up as temps were dropping. With (hopefully) a good grooming in the morning, Sunday morning skiers may be rewarded with excellent conditions. Carpe Skiem,.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Good skating! Skied Birches and hill sections of a Maples. Full coverage 1/4 inch of snow dusting a firm base. The lighted trail section was in excellent condition.
Skied early evening in 30 degree windless conditions. Classic tracks exist but not near trailhead. With or without any new snow predicted for tomorrow night, the RFC should offer decent skiing all weekend. Get out. Carpe Skiem!

Skied the Oak trail this afternoon. Overall it's in great condition. Hard-packed and recently groomed for some of the fastest skating of the season.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Hard packed, compacted fresh snow on top of ice base, groomed recently.
Skied the Maples as the sun set. The new snow was groomed over a flat ice base. Firm fast skating with just a few icy spots. A nice fast ski. Classic tracks looked thin.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Firm and fast in the morning. Wet and fast late.
The Stump Farm Classic was held today. Marginal tracks but fast snow made for a lot of fun in the sun. Racing late under the lights drew big crowds and huge smiles.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Surprisingly nice, full coverage.
Arrived at 6 pm, 36 degrees F. Trail had a half inch of icy, granular slush on top of a firm base. Skated quite fast and fun. Similar to the Birkie trail in the woods last Saturday. Classic tracks looked good as well.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Good to very good! Titanium base holding up: clean, fast, covered! Skated the night trail, surprisingly fantastic. Classic tracks were holding. Pines Trail looked freshly groomed.
Don't miss out, worth the trip! For those of you who know the lighted trail, I was able to glide from the top of the largest hill all the way to the intersection. Super fun. 35 degrees under clear skies and moderate winds.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Trail was hard packed and fast but not icy. Back end of where Maples and Birches intersect the trail looked like it was rolled in just that little section.
Finishing with the lights on was really neat. Love the new addition. Looking forward to some warmer nights coming up to ski under the lights.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Good, super fast and a little dirty from wind debris. Skate deck is titanium solid. Classic tracks look well cut.
Late afternoon skate in 11 degree temps with blue skies and a setting sun filtering thru the trees. A beauty. With a fresh groom on Sunday morning, Valentine's Day skiers are going to have a great time at the Reforestation Camp!
