Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Fair to poor. Conditions indicate the trails received very high use after a.m. grooming. There's plenty of snow for "A" skis; debris wasn't an issue at all. Deep holes are present.
Conditions of trails is a sign of high use, as Brown County reported the skate deck was groomed this morning. Unfortunately, we didn't arrive until 1:00 p.m. The initial "launch"/hill is extremely rough, chewed up, and full of deep holes. While much better than the initial launch/downhill, the other skate decks are also rough and very soft with holes and loose snow throughout. (This is a rarity for Neshota and is probably caused by high use as skiers are searching for snow!) Husband reported that inner hills (skating decks) are icy on top and exit into soft, punchy snow that may cause "flying" face plants if caught off guard. Double classic tracks have plenty of snow with no debris. They are soft, and in multiple places, they're washed out from high use. Pole plant is nearly impossible on outer set of tracks. Snow still blankets the trees for beautiful scenery, and while the trail seemed to experience high use today (possibly including foot traffic that created deep holes), skiing was still enjoyable, particularly for warming up for the season. The snow is clean and plentiful, and there's always a calming peace at Neshota Park. The sledding hill is a plus for children!

Conditions: Very good, recently groomed with soft base.
Very good coverage. No bare spots. Minimal to no debris. Skating was soft but good glide. Pole planting very soft down to ground. Overall, great day in the woods.
