Reports 1 to 4 of 4    Month: Jan
Wednesday, January 18, 2017
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
All Vasaloppet Public Ski Area (also called the northern practice loops) trails have been groomed for skate skiing and tracked for classic skiing. The Lanternloppet, Beaver Dam and Glen Johnstone 58K north loop from Soupstop A to the Lanternloppet trail were all in very good to excellent condition on Wednesday morning. The Memorial trail is now groomed. The Memorial and Point trails were in good to very good condition this morning with a few brown spots from grooming. Classic tracks were very good. We will see what warmer temperatures do this week. Morning skiing before temps got above freezing was great. All we need now is more snow and freezing temperatures.

The Vasaloppet Public Ski area west of Warman now offers very good skiing and has classic tracks on all trails except the Memorial Trail, which is still being groomed and should be ready in the next day or so. These Northern trails offer a great "out in the woods" experience as well as nearly 24 kilometers of trail. There's plenty of parking available in the plowed parking area along County Road 80.

The Beaver Dam, Lanternloppet and North 58K loop that includes the Point Trail have been groomed and a track set by Mike Johnstone on Thursday for both classic and skate skiing. They are in good to very good condition with the new snow this week. There are a few bumps due to the uneven terrain. The swamps are in excellent condition. There are a few rough spots on the Point Trail where hunters drove through two or three wet spots. Yet it is easy to ski around them. It will be good trail conditions and weather for skiing this weekend.
