Notes

The Lester-Amity trail offers 15K of varied terrain for beginner to experienced skiers through pine, aspen, and birch forests. An additional 3K circles the Lester Park Golf Course and is accessible from the main Lester-Amity Trail. The openness of the golf course offers an excellent place for beginning cross-country skiers, and several short cuts are available. There is also a 5K trail portion that is lit in the mornings and evenings.

Trail Reports

2016-2017 season

Fair to good for classic, mostly good for skate. The classic track has a few little patches that are down to grass and leaves, especially on the lower loops. They are easily stepped around, and it gets better as you go up. I was wishing I was skating, because the skate lane was nice except for occasional wide, half-frozen seeps that you can't skate around. I talked to a young man who was walking three dogs down the trail and pointed him to the nearby walking trail. We did not ski J so I can't tell you how that was.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Lester groomed this morning. One track set all around. Shallow in areas. Large slush/ice spots on upper loops close to I.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Lester was rolled today, we will be back out tomorrow to groom. Started grooming this afternoon but had to stop due to the warm sun and sticky snow.

Not groomed yet sadly, but had a great powder ski tonight anyway with some warm temp wax. I had the whole place to myself, skied the whole thing, hills were a ton of fun. A few soggy and icy spots but should smooth out pretty well if they can get a groomer on it.

I tried the 7 Bridges Rd. parking lot, and the chalet parking lot. I only skied about a kilometer total, but I decided that it was crummy enough that it really wasn't worth it. There is a lot of dirt, fairground, ice.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Our UTV broke down today as we were rolling Lester. While towing it out there was some dirt and ice chunks that were brought up on the trail. Currently 2 out of 3 pieces of equipment for grooming are down for repairs. We are hopeful to have at least one back before the weekend. This has and will impact our response time for grooming this week. Extremely icy conditions are no help. Thanks for your patience. We are hopeful that we'll be able to complete grooming before the Tour Duluth event this weekend.

Observation
Not skiable. I hiked the very icy Amity East COGGS trail and took pics at the ski trail intersections and the trailhead. It's ice, bare spots, and ice. Also ice. We will need a good dump of snow to resurrect the trails. Also unskiable: 7 Bridges/Skyline (large bare patches and ice) and Amity Creek (wide open and roaring).

Going going... Not quite gone yet. Just skied outer loop at noonish and probably 92.5% covered and there are a few areas of brown snow/sorta ice but not too bad... 1/2 thru my ski it started raining and I am soaked but the trail was decent. I would say it would be worth trying tonight if we don't get too much of a downpour.

Surprisingly good conditions. Maybe 5% of the trail is very wet but still passable. Classic tracks appeared OK. Slowing down as the temp warms up.

The skiing was great. In some places it was a little icy. One particular hill coming up from the park was really icy. It was better than I thought and there were nice tracks set. The sunset was very beautiful with the trees.
