Trail Reports

2015-2016 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 11    Month: Feb | Jan | Dec
Sunday, February 7, 2016
Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Pretty good, good snow coverage and tracks. Groomed last Wednesday.
All the trails on the North side of the park and most, except the farthest south -eastern quardrant (Spruce loop) have been impeccably groomed this whole season. The park is rockin it this year! The rain is doing it's damage, but the tracks are still holding up.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic Secondhand
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Trails north of Hwy 210 (White Pine, CCC, and Thompson Loop trails) are groomed and tracked. Tracks are firm and fast. The staff reported that they are currently grooming the trails south of the river.
Might be a good idea to bleed some speed before hitting the washout area of White Pine trail and other trail bends if you aren't familiar with the trail.

Not groomed or tracked since the rain. Icy.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Good to excellent.
Skied Silver creek, lower lake and upper lake trail. Freshly groomed. Hills were in great shape. A little thin under the ceder trees. Looked like spruce was all groomed also. Groomer did a great job. Little eerie when you are all alone and see those large timber wolf tracks right down upper lake trail. Best ski of the year!

White Pine, CC, and Thompson Loop Trails newly groomed today (I saw the groomer). Trails are very good with only a few slight dirt spots noted. Trails south of the river hadn't been groomed yet.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Skied the Silver Creek Trail (south side of the river). Trail was good to fair. The lower part of the trail in the valley has several bare spots under spruce trees. More coverage on the upper trail.
Steep sections are marked with caution signs. No tracks on the steep hills, but a track appears just when you need it. These areas are very fast and a real adrenaline rush.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Generally good with a few thin spots under the conifers. Oak leaf and conifer needle debris in the usual spots, and a couple of dirt spots showing on the downhill return from the dam.
With the debris and temperatures in the 20's, no-wax skis are probably your best choice. White Pine had substantial traffic but track was holding up. Greeley Creek and Triangle had only one skier preceding me on one of the two tracks, but a party of four snowshoers with a dog was on the Triangle. Tracks alongside the Munger were undisturbed by snowmobilers as of 1pm, but there were two riders whizzing by at more than twice the posted speed limit. But hey, it's New Year's Day and Jay Cooke vistas are always worthwhile.

Conditions: Groomed, thin in spots.
Great conditions groomed, nice track. Few places with ground showing through under thickest tree cover. Beautiful!

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Bare ground ]
Trails north of Hwy 210 were groomed yesterday. Very good skiing on most of the northern trails, but the groomer kicked up dirt in several places due to lack of snow. Trails were wind-blown in open areas.
