Trail Reports

2016-2017 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 40    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Morning
Firsthand: Both Secondhand
[ Good skis ]
Another great day at Fox Hill. Very good skating conditions, much firmer and faster than yesterday. Most of the trails have been groomed. Classic tracks are great except where the sun has burned through to expose dirt, but these spots can all be seen and avoided by simply hopping onto the skate deck. Should be another excellent day on Thursday, as Jerry will groom in the morning.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Good skis ]
Eight or so inches on the ground, the majority of trails have been packed for skating and solid tracks set. The skating was very soft today, but the classic tracks were quite good. Since the sun was bright, there are very small pockets of exposed ground periodically on the classic tracks. The skating deck should be much faster tomorrow, and Jerry will groom it again in the morning.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Enjoyable conditions. A few ruts and bare spots however Jerry is once again making the most out of a little snow! Kudos. It's hard to complain when your grateful to get in one more outing. The meadows were groomed but not the woods.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Fresh, cold snow almost winter texture. Very good skiing on good fish scales with only a few bare spots and several rivulets in low places. Trails are a little lumpy in places, but overall very good skiing. Blue skies and white, cold snow - perfect on a March day. No tracks set. Hard wax grip might toward fine if you don't mind classic without tracks.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails: Closed, Bare ground ]
Trails are still snow covered and white but very soft. The parking lot is closed. Please stay off the trails--perhaps if we get lucky the weather will let us back on the trail. Until then, skiing on soft snow creates ruts that are very difficult to groom out.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Upper fields truck lane and lower prairie were groomed this afternoon for skate will be regroomed in the morning about 7 or so. Truck lane is very icy in spots with some deep ruts from someone who skied it on Monday, but the lower prairie appears to be in pretty good shape. Upper field are good. B skis.

After the big thaw/rain/ refreeze/ and rewarm, Fox Hill is still is very good shape for skating. Groomer levels and scratched up the surface yesterday so the skis can bite along with rocket-ship glide. Warming temps should make for fun skiing this afternoon and tomorrow. A few icy spots to watch out for but overall surprisingly fun skating. Spring skiing in February.
