Got out just before 10:00 AM, and the cool air temp (~5º F) made the trails pretty icy. Skiid Beaver Dam, Ridge Run, Summer Home Road, and Bear Cub World Cup trails. Trails had about 99.9% coverage, but there were a few areas where some residue from branches/downed trees that have been cleaned up were groomed in a little bit. One large rock is exposed on the Bear Cub World Cup loop but is avoidable. Things were softening up and becoming pretty ideal around noon, so if you can get out when things are warming up it'll take the craziness out of the icy trails. A few spots that had melted into solid ponds over the trails during the warm-up are frozen over into that nice yellowish ice, but you can get around most of them. Pretty typical spring conditions, I'd say, but well groomed all things considered. Classic tracks looked good in most parts, a little shallow in others. This is a nice trail system!

Two inches of fresh snow over a firm base. All trails open. It got colder and crustier in the afternoon - still very good skiing.

Great skiing on the Gunflint. Spent the last four days at Bearskin skiing the entire system. Trails were in fantastic shape, plenty of snow, no ice and a nice dusting of snow on top. Thanks to Bearskin and Golden Eagle for the awesome job keeping these trails in such great shape after the meltdown!

Excellent spring skiing! The trails, snow, grooming and scenery were all fantastic! One inch of new snow on top of a perfect base. The skate deck was perfect. Jumped in to the classic tracks a little bit and they were deep, true and fast as well. Bear cub world cup was an exceptional experience. If you love to ski, you have to ski this. Come on up! You will want to stay.

Great snow! Great grooming! Fast skiing. Temps mid 20's wonderful skiing, plenty of snow everywhere. If you are tired of no snow - Central Gunflint trail is your answer! We still have winters. We skied all in the afternoon. It was terrific! Should be great snow for while.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
It was a warm week but plenty of snow yet remains. Trail base is still averaging between 7 and 10 inches in most areas. Expect fast conditions, abrasive snow, and a hard base. All surface snow is tilled. All 70 kilometers of trails are open.

Lovely sunny day at Bearskin/Golden Eagle trail system. Wish I would have gone in the morning before the sun was up so high and the temps too. The sun did cause a variation of slow/fast sections, as I was classic skiing. It got to 45 degrees while I was there, but I was amazed at how most trails were holding up. I did some depth checking with my ski pole, seems about 20 inches average snow depth to the side of the set tracks. I used my old waxless skis, after trying two attempts at skis I had waxed. It was delightful to ski out on the lake a bit on the set tracks at Bearskin.

We always have a good time skiing Golden Eagle and Bearskin. The trails were well groomed, but we had a ton of wind and warmer temps. So, the classic tracks had debris and glazing with icy spots off and on. We had to use all of our downhill skills to make it through some of the icy downhills. We still had fun and enjoyed the great Boundary Waters type scenery!

Skated trails around golden eagle lodge today. Lots of snow, freshly groomed. Excellent except for the very few soft spots on downhills. Tracks looked great too.
