Trail Reports

2015-2016 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 17    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov
Saturday, March 12, 2016
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Fun spring skiing on the snow-making loop!
Full coverage on the snow-making loop with the exception of the Swamp Loop, which is living up to its name. Fun, fast skiing during the transition from early morning crust to late morning melt.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: 3" of wet snow made for interesting classic skiing. G2 skis worked great on downhills, and uphills had plenty of traction with a ton of snow under each foot. Temps in upper 30's.
Still better than skate skiing in the deep sticky stuff. Grooming expected within the next day or two as it cools down at night.

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Another inch of snow adds to the fun of skiing without more grooming needed.
All trails skiing beautifully, but warm temps expected may change conditions dramatically.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: All trails were groomed Tuesday with tracks set after Sunday's big snow.
Never mind the cold temps! The skiing is great at Mt Itasca on biathlon and upper trail systems.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Still skiing pretty nicely after a few light snowfalls. Will need a touch up pack and track reset if we get any more.
But who's complaining!? Temps are mild and trails are snow covered. Natural snow adds glide to man-made base on biathlon trails.

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Excellent. Groomed and track set.
Groomed Grant-In-Aid and biathlon trails after about 5 inches new snow. All trails at Mt. Itasca are now open, including the 3.3 km biathlon loop, and tracks are set on the Grant-In-Aid trails, too.

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: 3" new snow + 20 degrees = great glide! Lotsa fun skiing in the snow!
Tornado Bob is grooming both biathlon and upper trail systems tonight. Should be nicely set up by morning!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Really nice skiing on top Grant in Aid trails and access from Cemetery Road has been groomed out nicely but cold weather = no glide!
A few sections of Biathlon course are still not groomed but there is plenty of skiing throughout the system. Bunny Hill on the downhill ski area is not groomed and a little challenging so be careful!

Grooming
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Packed and tracked on lower biathlon loops plus skiff of snow made for really nice skiing. Triple Twister and Roller Coaster too! All ready for first Youth Ski League session on Sunday.
Upper trail system with only natural snow is packed but not tracked. Rolling hills terrain made for really nice skate skiing and view from the top of the ski hill. Access from Cemetery is rough. Walk in before putting on skis.

Excellent trail conditions where man-made snow was groomed for high school races today. Fast and fun! Skate race, no track set.
