Conditions: Better than May 1st! Dusting of new snow, 31 degrees. Didn't expect to wake up to fresh snow today. Went out on the trails with the crowns, skiing on the east side of the inner system liking the sections that are still holding on to some base for a nice ski. For May 4th, it was great. Beautiful early morning in the woods.

Conditions: Barely skiable. 33 degrees, windy. The warm night on Monday and morning on Tuesday wind wiped out a lot of snow making a May 1 groom not possible. However, there was still enough coverage to log in a desperation May 1st ski. This marked the 8th consecutive month we have skied at Maplelag! A raw day felt good in the woods and lots of sights and sounds of spring including the first loons enjoying the rare spots of open water near inlets and outlets. Suicide hill has good coverage and was good up and down fun. Probably can get another 3-4 days of skiing on the hill before we sign off on winter woods travel. With that said, the trails will be closed until it dries up. Thanks to everyone who patronized Maplelag this past year! Wow an incredible season!

Conditions: Better than yesterday! Froze down hard last night making magic hour skiing possible this morning. The compacted slush areas yesterday were solid ice to begin but slowly softened up making for nice glide. The low areas had drained off for the most part and the trail had a much different look and feel than last night. Skied a 7km "loop" including entire North Loup. NL had excellent coverage on 90% of the loop, thin on 9.5% and three ski lengths where no snow. Skate skiing was much better than expected and had to stop a few times and take in the incredible morning. I could have groomed this loop this morning but holding out until May 1st, hoping the warm night and possible rain doesn't do too much damage!

Conditions: Skiable. Ice, slush, corn snow. 0-12" base. 47 degrees at sunset. Went out for a sunset ski to check the trails after three days of big time warmth. The trails were skiable and found best coverage on Suicide hill, east side of Sukkerbusk and Skaters Waltz. Crossed the road over to North Loup and found even better coverage and 8" base on average. Beautiful balmy evening in the woods. Feel pretty confident of skiing later this week for May skiing!

Conditions: Very good snow coverage on the trails at Maplelag. The snow coverage at Maplelag remains very good, especially for April 27th. There was lots of sunshine with very mild temperatures today. I skied the North Loop on Saturday afternoon, entering off Goat Ranch Road. While the sun may be high and mighty in the spring sky, it has yet to muster the muscle to melt the magic of Maplelag.
