Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Fair to very good spring skiing.
We had nice skiing this morning thanks to temps dropping down to the upper teens overnight. Didn't get out until closer to noon but the snow was still skiing fast and the sunshine was fantastic making for an awesome ski. We should have skiable conditions early Sunday. Few more thin and bare spots to watch out for.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle Grooming
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Packed damp powder on 3.5km groomed loop, other trails 3" fresh damp snow. Morning grooming on 3.5km of trail. Good to very good rock ski conditions.
A very light dusting of snow overnight was Ginzu groomed before sunrise on the 3.5km loop that was groomed last night. Met up with some local skiers mid morning for a better than expected skate ski. Was a bit slower than the fast corn snow we skied on the last few weeks but overall it was awesome. The loop was skied in nicely by noon, getting in to the mid 30's this afternoon which will soften the snow and open around the dark spots but should hang on to some adequate coverage for Saturday morning skiing. No grooming planned but conditions should be a bit faster in the morning before softening and slowing up. Heads up for some thin/rough areas, in particular hill facing south near Suicide Hill. There is no charge to use the trails and no services in the main lodge including no ski rentals. Park, just ski and enjoy!

Grooming Scheduling
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: 3-4" new snow past 24 hours. Grooming on 3.5km of trail. Rock ski conditions.
Adequate snowfall the past 24 hours combined with below freezing temps at dusk allowed us to groom a 3.5km loop including Suicide Hill. Temp slowly falling tonight, might only drop a few more degrees but should set up the grooming nicely and be nice skiing before noon tomorrow. We had no rain to speak of before the snow so there are no slush or water spots. All the base snow melted off before the new snow so the snow that was packed tonight is the only base and caution must be used on the hills if venturing out. Trails not groomed should be fine for rock ski classic. There is no charge to use the trails. There are no services available, park and just ski!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle Grooming
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Spring. Closing on Saturday. 4km groomed past 24 hours, textbook spring skiing Friday morning.
Sneaked in one final groom on the current snow pack, grooming out most of Skaters Waltz Thursday evening. Set up nicely overnight and was fantastic skiing mid morning. North Loup was super sweet spot skiing before that and couldn't of asked for a nicer morning of spring skiing. Very warm temps melting out a lot of snow rest of the day and we will be closing the trails tonight. There will be some back and forth skiing options for the diehards Saturday and Sunday morning and the lake will be fun skiing in the afternoons but please no hiking or biking on the trails to prevent trail damage until further notice. Thanks to everyone who patronized the Maplelag trails this season making it a great year! Note: We have one of the groomers on standby for any late season storms.....

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Spring conditions, frozen granulated (corn snow) icy spots, areas of thin cover. Sweet spot later today closer to noon. No grooming. Morning low 24 degrees freezing everything down rock hard last night.
Met up with Denny mid morning for a skate ski on Skaters Waltz and North Loup. North Loup still hanging on to good coverage, one section thin with a bare spot or two but overall nice late season spring skiing. The temp was still below 32, evident by the frost still clinging on to the trees, making for fast skiing the entire time. When we got off the trail around noon it was just starting to soften making for really nice sweet spot/magic hour skiing. We should hang on to the coverage just fine today and have skiing tomorrow morning. Recommended trail is North Loup. Avoid the "kamikaze" hill section on Skaters Waltz. Get out before noon!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle Grooming
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Spring, corn snow with some low areas wet. 95% coverage. 41 degrees, mist. Areas of thin cover, scattered forest debris. Poor to good ski conditions.
Yesterday's high temp of 61 was not kind to the trails. Too much melting to groom last night and didn't freeze down enough last night to groom this morning. Still plenty of snow to go out for a skate ski and check the trails. Skaters Waltz was mostly firm and the corn snow provided good glide. North Loup had little better coverage but was a bit softer, due to not being as groomed as much as Skaters this year. Was very foggy, but great to be out in the woods skiing on the snow that remains. Temp has been falling throughout the day and should freeze down good tonight. Will be super icy in the morning until it softens up again....spring skiing! Heads up for a few bare spots if venturing out.

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Spring conditions! Great weekend of skiing!
A great weekend of springlike conditions although this afternoon almost was like summer! Despite the warm temps, the snow held out great and good to see folks enjoy the trails all day today. Yesterday the crust skiing on the lakes off the groomed trails was some of the best ever. Next grooming planned tomorrow evening on Skaters Waltz. Will be an interesting week to see if we can make it to next weekend. Sure hope so!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: The best possible skating on Skaters' Waltz, I did 15 K in the morning. On the classic trails, the fresh powder made a big difference, no ice at all: Twin Lakes, Island Lake, Sap Run, Mother North Star, Sukkerbusk - another 18 K.
First-rate recreation on a perfect spring day, thank you Maplelag. I hope to be back at least one more time (I live down in South Dakota, but don't mind the long drive a few times a year).

Conditions: Great spring skiing on Saturday!
The trails at Maplelag are holding up very, very well. I skied two trails today, Twin Lakes and Jib Fly, and both remain fully covered and in very nice shape. The conditions remain ideal. It's such a treat having a ski resort like Maplelag in this neck of the woods.
