They're grooming! Get out while you can! Groomed Thursday and yet again today. Stopped in the office and was told they were grooming until dark (told at 2). They were setting tracks, but I personally wouldn't use good skis in them as they were very shallow and crumbling. I didn't see them on the golf course, but almost all of the park had attempted tracks. It's cold dry snow. There a few thin spots on the skate deck, but 95% is perfect. Be careful on the golf course as there's a maintenance road and asphalt trail crossing that were plowed (in addition to the park road). Best skiing of the last few years there now.

I did the skijoring loop with my dog. The snow was firm from the rain packing it down, and easy to get an edge. Plenty of dirty snow and bare spots, but is mostly navigable if you look ahead. Since the skijor loop is a grassy dirt road you don't have to worry about rocks. Some mulch to deal with in a few spots though. I would use b-skis. Overall it was fun to get out on a fairly remote trail.

Yesterday I was pleasantly surprised with how good conditions were. Today they've really deteriorated. The deck was really icy with lots of bare spots. I stopped short of my usual ski due to conditions. Personally, I'm done there until there is more snow. They also have an epidemic of walkers on the designated ski trails. Because of that there are craters with grass/dirt showing all over the trails, so if trying to snow plow down a hill it's nearly impossible. There was not a trail that didn't have multiple boot tracks on it today and yesterday.

[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
I did some skate skiing around noon today at Bunker Hills. Trails were a mixed bag, with a little bit of everything. The skating was actually the best on the skijoring loop, with a fairly broad skate lane packed reasonably well. A few dirt spots visible on some of the steeper slopes, but generally quite good. Much of the southern golf course trail was rolled (with 2-3 inch deep ridges) but not packed. In sections there was enough loose snow blown onto the trail that it evened out and actually made it better for skating. A fair bit of dirt and debris visible on the hills closer to the activities center, but all avoidable. You could get away with using good skis if you were very careful, as the visual dirt spots never translated into any actual hits that I noticed, but B skis are recommended. I didn't make it over to the campground trails in the southwest, as at least the trail heading north from the golf course towards the road crossing was ungroomed. No classic tracks were set anywhere.
