Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied late afternoon, and trails were in overall fair to good shape. Dirty spots are getting dirtier, and starting to see a handful of smaller rocks surfacing. Snow was quite soft and getting wet. Not quite rock skis, but it's getting closer... Ad hoc connector trail on north side to avoid ice build-up is probably the worse, with foliage coming through, but no rocks/dirt.

I had a good ski at Baker today. The skating lane was in good shape with very little dirt or debris. The classic tracks were good to very good on the Hill and Prairie trails. Otherwise they were inconsistent in fair to sometimes good condition. Considering our lack of snowfall, Baker has done a great job trying to groom classic tracks.

Very good skate conditions; fairly consistent but shallow classic track. 28 degrees and sunny. Skied the entire perimeter except Evergreen, which was in poor condition; there were occasional dirt bleed thru's but they were no problem to skate around. Only recall one on a downhill, the curve where the trail coming over from Evergreen linked into the trail from the chalet to Island Trail. Snow was generally dry with a few moist spots where my skis waxed with FastWax Salmon (old color scheme) HF and buffed with Fluoro paste seemed to run faster. I did five miles at a 5.8 MPH pace.

Hill, Timber and Prairie trails are in good shape for skating. A few minor dirty spots which can be skied around. Trails were well skied by afternoon but still good. Classic tracks were good considering. They broke thru to ground occasionally but usable with b or rock skis.

Almost perfect conditions, mostly flat deck, good grooming, good cover except in a few small spots. Beautiful sunny day, 20F. Took Steffie and a friend to Baker around 10 AM to ski the golf course and since we've only skied and skijored the multi-use trail, the girls were nice enough to let me rent some skis and ski with them "Just for a while." Trails were very good, much better than natural snow trails farther east in the area, more snow on the west side, apparently. As the sun got going and temps rose a bit, the deck softened and glide became superb which made climbing the myriad hills fun. Seemed everyone was moving with ease. Lots of skiers out when I left the girls just before noon. Very confusing navigating the trails since they're all short and none of them have direction markers but we received some help from regular skiers as we went along. We'll definitely return, the setting is beautiful.

All trails but one are open. Overall excellent shape, I was impressed. A handful of dirty spots, but didn't spot any significant rocks. Felt like March skiing--absolutely perfect temps and quite a few skiers out there enjoying it. While we were there two groomers were out dragging the island loop. While fresh lines were nice, after grooming it was actually dirtier than when they started.

Beautiful trails today... still in good shape in the afternoon. The strong winds impacted the trails especially in unprotected areas. Great grooming and a beautiful place to spend an afternoon. Not much track set for classic.

Three Rivers said Baker trails were in good condition and they were right. Used my good skis on Island, Timber and Prairie Trail and did not see any rocks. No track but the skate deck was solid. Looks like the trails should be good for a while.

Good to very good, no classic tracks, expect to be better after another grooming. Heard groomers didn't think classic tracks could be set due to ice base, though I thought there was enough snow to groom classic. High school classic event scheduled Jan 12th may be cancelled due to classic track concerns. I saw only two other skiers there, worth the drive to avoid crowds at other venues.
