2015-2016 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 19    Month: Feb | Jan | Dec

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Variable-- Icy classic tracks with soft snow in them. Skate deck icy with enough snow to find edging on 80% of it. Best to stay off steep hills.
I did two inner loops of the outer loop, one classic and one skate. By avoiding all of the steep down hills, I managed to have a pleasant ski. Almost all of the classic tracks have soft snow in them, and the inner loop section west of the tunnel was in excellent condition. Faint of heart can find some solace here if one is a little selective.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Not for the faint of heart.
The skating lane was solid, as in it might have been possible to use ice skates. The little bit of new snow made skating possible. It also made the ice hard classic track fun to double pole. Anything in the wind at all was boiler plate ice. I don't believe their grooming equipment, borrowed from another park, can't do much to change this. Anything downhill was pretty nuts. Don't fall.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Maybe 1" of new snow over hard crust and sheer ice made the trail skiable.
Classic skiing was actually pretty good until I did the first hill. There was enough new snow in the tracks to make for a good glide with a decent kick. The hill right before the Oak Savanna Loop was surprisingly icy. It looked like it had some snow cover but it was actually blown clear and was a hard crust. Was going to ski the long downhill to the tracks but soon skittered to a stop and walked until I got down the hill after the tracks. Can't imagine how treacherous the bigger hills would be. The ski back across the marsh and past the group camp was very good. Only other skier I saw was skate skiing and he said it was "pretty icy.".

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Very good for classic, but skate lane uneven.
It was better for classic than for skate, with tracks that were solid but not icy. The skate lane had good coverage throughout the park, but there wasn't enough snow depth to smooth the ground below. After skiing most of the season on golf courses or snowmaking loops, I've gotten spoiled by even surfaces. It it was a good test of my balance!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Skate hardpacked or soft. Classic good tracks but bottom of track is icy over 50% of track.
Bumpy classic but better than skate. Skate very firm with grooming ruts. Uphills soft especially SA. Could use a touch up grooming. Good skis but will test your balance. Might be better on Saturday with warmer temps.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: All trails are groomed and tracked.
classic skied all outer perimeter trails. Oak savannah trail is especially beautiful with snow covered branches on trees. classic tracks are thin in places, with crust evident underneath.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Complete coverage with shallow machine made tracks that were free of debris.
Classic skied the entire perimeter with falling snow that was just enough to slow my progress as it coagulated onto my ski base which was perhaps an ill advised concoction of Toko blue and Rex power grip. The skate lane looked level and semi firm. All and all a great day on the trail despite my waxing faux pas.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Skied both classic and skate in late morning. Groomer out....no classical tracks set, skate deck soft 2-3" new snow, could have used A skis. Great to be on fresh snow!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Thin, dirty, firm, lumpy and bumpy.
I previewed the O'Brien race course around noon today. As expected the course is thin. There is decent coverage for the most part, but there are some very thin spots and a few dirt patches poking through. Some shoveling has been done recently but it was very soft. Most of the course is very dirty with lots of leaves, sticks, and dirt. Lastly it is very uneven. Good balance and agility will be needed to stay on your feet.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Fair to poor, icy skating deck with lots of ruts and groomer tracks.
Good coverage with only a few rocks exposed, but lack of snow has the usual accumulation of seeds and twigs, and washouts/eroded gullies/groomer tracks made it a challenge. More snow needed to make an even surface.
