Notes

A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.

Today Jeff and Randy groomed and tracked: Anchor, Seagull, Rollercoaster, Telford, and the Sugarbush Dog Trail. They also tracked Sugarbush Classic. In general conditions are in good to very good rating, the tracks are a little rough in spots yet.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
With 2-3 inches of new snow, Mike tracked Raven and Deerpath. He rated the conditions as good. We'll hopefully get around to regrooming the other core trails very soon.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The rain made the trails icy, and they have not been re-groomed yet, but the 1" or so of snow we got covered them and are making them ski-able and fast, but a little icy/crunchy.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skied Anchor, Seagull and Jolly trails. Anchor and seagull were in good shape with good coverage and decent tracks. No tracks on Jolly but there was a packed skate lane. Sugarbush also appeared to have been groomed. Conditions were icy/crusty but improving with the dusting of snow. Some downhills were difficult because of the icy conditions. Not too much debris, probably OK to use good skis, didn't see any bare spots although there were some thin spots.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Good skis ]
Despite the Christmas rain the trails were holding up quite good. A somewhat hard, icy base but a little fresh powder mixed in to soften it a bit. I had better kick than I was expecting in the tracks. Great to be out, thanks groomers!

Evening
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
We groomed and tracked: Anchor, Seagull, Rollercoaster and Telford. I didn't see any thin spots, but the tracks didn't set real well. The trails we didn't groom are still pretty much boilerplate, so not recommended to be skied on.

Today Steve regroomed and tracked: Anchor, Seagull, Rollercoaster and Telford. The trails groomed up well, hopefully the warm weather won't damage them.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
I did a short classic ski around Anchor this afternoon and conditions were great. A beautiful day for classic skiing and nice deep tracks. There was about one inch of powder on the skate deck and given the cold temps it seemed like skating would be slow going, but a nice even surface.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Today we finished grooming the trails we didn't get to yesterday. This included packing and tracking: Raven, Deerpath, Black Bear, Oppedahl's, and Birch Hill. I also packed the Sugarbush Dog trail. All the trails look to be in pretty good shape. The trails we groomed yesterday did get a dusting of snow on top of them. The tracks got skied in today, but not many skaters out for some reason.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
We skied the Sugarbush trail. This is easy terrain and was generally nicely tracked with an occasional washout on the curves. In the more heavily wooded coniferous sections there was some duff, but not much. Used B skis but could have used A's... no rocks at all. Did not try the skate trails. Groomer appeared to be going out again as we left at sundown.
