Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Around 7 inches fell last night and this morning of wet snow. I broke trail on the Base Loop. Saw no other skiers but some familys were having fun on the tubing hill. Slow going.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Skied the east inner loop Silver-Tower-XC-Nepco a few times with good results and only one minor fall. Quite thin in the narrow conifer areas but generally good coverage and glide. Had to pull more than skate to avoid hitting ground or pebbles in various sections. All in all, worth the drive and donation.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Good set of trails are rolled. Snow is generally good with some stuff showing through. We skied both the rolled trails and some none groomed trails. It was worth the effort to get out and ski, better than hiking.

Observation Scheduling
[ Trails: Closed ]
Starting on Wednesday, January 31st the ski trails will be closed. The base is just getting too thin and freeze/thaw is making for some challenging ski conditions out there. So, we will be closing the ski trails until we get some fresh snow to groom. The snowshoe trails and Ski Shop are still open and we are still hosting several upcoming events. Visit our website for our updated hours. Hopefully we can all get back on skis soon!

Morning
Observation
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
It will be true spring skiing today - the skate decks are crusty and fast this morning due to colder overnight temps. So, things will ski better in the afternoon hours when it's had a chance to soften up. Skate skiing is probably better than classic skiing at this time. Classic tracks are deteriorating quickly with many bare spots. There is not enough snow to re-groom the trails at this time. Unfortunately, rock ski conditions have returned with many thin spots showing up especially on the east side trails. Think snow!

Trails are holding up surprisingly well, skied Cookie Loop, Nekoosa and Wolf Tracks. As expected, very lumpy/bumpy and uneven, some skidding as expected given the compacted surface. Still very nice given the snow drought. Some spots with forest litter accumulation need care.

Morning
Observation
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Trails are still skiing fairly well today, but the skate deck is starting to get packed in and the classic tracks are getting a little shallow in spots. Due to the prolonged stretch of warm temperatures and a very fragile trail base, we will be suspending all ski trail grooming efforts until we get some fresh snow. Do your snow dances!

Great trails with a thin base. Thanks to a great job grooming with minimum snow. I skied about 15 miles of trails. All groomed with most of them having tracks on them.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Mechanical gremlins caused some issues for the groomers. The crew was able to get Wolf Tracks, Nekoosa, and the Cookie Loop done yesterday before wheel issues forced them to end the evening early. With that said, the trails are still skiing well. Conditions remain thin and bumpy in spots. The crew was working on patching some thin spots in the classic tracks, and they are looking pretty good considering the amount of snow we have. We are hoping to have the equipment issue fixed asap! Thanks for your understanding.

Confined myself to the Cookie Loop. Given the amount of snow (or lack thereof), these trails have been skiing pretty well. You can use good skis, just a few spots that require care to negotiate. Classic track was set but in fair condition. Skate deck was lumpy and bumpy, to be expected given the snow drought, but still, it's good to get out and we can always stand some balance work. My skis ran very well, shout out to New Moon in Hayward and their Old Man Winter Grind. Works nice in these cold conditions.
