What a wonderful morning for a ski. Snow firmed up overnight giving a nice classic track. Skate deck looked great as well. Lots of skiers at 7am. Getting some sugar on the hills. Looks like they are prepping Frog for an opening soon.

Hope springs eternal but Star and Willow remain the only trails open. Desk staff said Frogtown may open next week. More tangible, it is apparent the large mound of snow next to the Chalet parking lot is starting to be spread by the groomers so the bypass of Star's west-east climb by the trail segment next to the parking lot may be open soon. As far as the existing trail conditions, with the warmer weather - 31F according to Google at my 12:00 noon start - the deeper sugar, occasionally wet, was back. However, the snow guns were not running on the Willow and Star downhills so no new artificial snow to slow you down. After two laps, I switched from my warmer-yellow-waxed skis to my colder-salmon-waxed skis. I thought the later ran a little bit faster but my tracking stats did not bear that out. In addition to the bare spot on the left of the first Star climb, another bare spot is starting to appear on the inside of the first corner of Star where it joins the straight-away leading to Willow.

The current trail is the same one mile loop. Frog Town is not open. Park staff said Frog Town could be open next week. Trail was a bit soft on the hills, but lots of people enjoying the snow. Think cold temps!

Frog Town is definitely not open this morning. With the warm up the classic tracks were soft and slow. The skate deck looked fine. No snow making happening.

The trail continued to be limited to Star and Willow but snow guns were running on Willow downhill and the downhill side of the Star west to east climb. Resulting artificial snow was slow but the rest of the snow was fairly fast. My average pace over three laps equaled my fastest over the six times I've been out here despite the slow-downs each time I hit the new artificial snow. The sugar was still deep on the last Willow climb and the NW and west east climbs on Star. It was not too bad on the rest of the trail. It was the mid 20's with a grey overcast.

Went mid afternoon, found Star loop and Frog town are open. There was a good amount of loose sugar on the Star loop hills and some right before the Frog town fork, but I was impressed with the amount of coverage, and the trails were not crowded at all. Overall a pleasant ski experience considering the year so far, shout out to the hyland grooming team.

The temps got low enough over night to provide a much-improved skate deck. The long hill up Willow loop was in fantastic shape, essentially zero sugar. The uphills on the Star loop were much better than yesterday, but still lots of sugar. Hopefully, cold temps will get them into shape. All of the snow guns were blazing as of 6:30 am and the machines were out moving snow near the Frog Town loop. Thank you to all of the groomers and staff at Hyland!

What a difference a few degrees make. Snow was in great condition. Good kick and glide throughout. A couple of highlights. Near Jan's shack heading out to Willow they groomed a bit wide and the right track is missing. The Star loop hill is a bit icy near the top, guessing that both will be sorted out. Lots of snow cannons all over.

The trail was very soft on the hills. The flats weren't much better. A great resistance ski. Good news: five snow guns were blowing snow. :)

At 6:30 this morning, the uphills consisted of deep sugar but the flats and downhills were OK. Lots of people out, so conditions may deteriorate as the day progresses.
