Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
I saw Lake Elmo had rolled the trails so took a chance and headed out over lunch. Glad I went! Trails were in pretty good shape, probably the best shape they've been all winter. The trails were softening quite a bit in the sun and a couple spots had bare ground showing through (the worst spot is returning on the Prairie Loop by the pond), but it was a very enjoyable ski. Thank you groomers for giving us a couple more days of skiing!

Lake Elmo ski trails were rolled yesterday and in fair condition. No tracks. Trail still really firm with a good base. Some leaves and pine needles, but still great late season skiing.

Skied today using skins. Had good kick. The trails have been rolled, but the treads of the grooming machine sunk below the flat rolled part. So there are no classic tracks(except skied in tracks) and no really flat track to skate. I classiced, and it was OK, and I got a workout, but the trail is rugged. Don't expect smooth skiing, and be careful on the downhills.

No classic tracks. The deck is very rough and uneven. It's not groomed smooth at all. I somewhat thought the trails would be smoother than they are. There are very few bare spots. Good skis can be used.

Good snow on top of crust. No grooming yet. Tracks on most segments, some decent. Hopefully improved by my skiing on them and adding others. A few low areas are wet but easy to get around. Mine was the only car in the lot and I had the place to myself. Some areas of strong wind and drifting. Very beautiful.

Skied at 2pm. Plenty of snow coverage. Slush under the trail in a few spots. No grooming, but a few rough tracks from earlier skiers. Skied Brown's pond and Hills section. A nice day to enjoy the outdoors.

Tree covered areas provided good snow on these natural trails. Areas where the sun was able to peak through were not as lucky with several large parts of the trail eroding completely. We had to pick up the skis and walk a few sections but it was still nice enjoying these lovely trails in this difficult winter. Kudos to the groomers for getting the most out of it!

Skied all east side trails. There were sections of beautiful snow and conditions. Yet there were bare spots to be skirted, lots of snirt, and some rocks. I didn't find any perfect loop. All that said, many thanks to the groomers for doing as much as possible with the limited new snow and no base. It was great to see some different scenery on skis this winter in the East Metro.
