Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Well really not bad as enough skiiers blazed a pretty decent trail. 5" to 6" snow depth throughout so good coverage. Only one bare spot but easy to navigate around. Just had to get in another ski with this weak winter.

Observation Scheduling
[ Trails: Closed, Rock skis ]
With the PistenBully going down and the very warm temperatures we are ending grooming operations for the 2023/2024 season. There is some snow left but with these temperatures it may not last long. Thanks to everyone who skied or posted positive comments about the trails. It is always nice to get recognition for the work done by the staff. The skiing community is always so supportive and the staff appreciates it very much so thank you again. We are all hoping that next year we will experience a true winter again with snow and everything. Thanks again from the Ramsey County Winter Recreation Staff. Have a great summer and hope to see you in the fall.

Skied at 8:00 AM. Not much of a skate skier, so take the report with a grain of salt. Thin and icy throughout the system. In the upper woods, there are places where the deck has disappeared and been replaced with wood chips. The north downhill turn in the upper woods is amusing: there is a small pond on the inside of the turn. All in all, a short ski, followed by coffee with a friend. Really, this report is to say thank you to the people who make the snow, to the people who groom the snow, and skinnyski. I use this source almost daily from late November to the end of the ski season. This year, I was late with my subscription; that said, if you haven't subscribed (become a member), this is my unpaid and unsolicited encouragement to do so. Thanks, and may next winter bring snow, the real stuff that falls from the sky. Stay active!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Unfortunately the PistenBully went down so I couldn't finish grooming the trails. The lighter weight equipment we have was also unable to work with the remaining snow. Conditions are what you'd expect given the weather. I was also unable to put a track in. Many thanks for the kind words I've seen here throughout the year!

Still great conditions at Battle Creek. I skied yesterday afternoon in the soft slush and this morning on fresh, firm corduroy. Kudos to Ramsey County for their great work. The occasional wood chip, but still amazing.

I was surprised by how good it was this morning. Hit the trail at 5:45 am and it was beautifully groomed. Firm and very fast, and I didn't hit any ice. I may have lower standards, but I was completely comfortable using my best skis. Huge thanks to the trail crew for their magic.

Skate deck was much better than yesterday; the cold weather firmed it up and it was groomed this morning. Has a couple of icy spots, but nothing too bad, and those spots were fairly obvious. Still some spots with wood chips and sticks showing through, but pretty avoidable.

Surprisingly good conditions this morning, less gray spots and debris compared to Monday, skated for an hour, expected icy and scary conditions but instead it was freshly groomed and delightful. Classic tracks looked shallow and rough in a few spots but ski season is definitely not over! Thank you Battle Creek staff!

These are the conditions that my indestructible fishscale touring skis live for! Super fun, sunny skiing on slightly slushy tracks. Skaters were doing OK too. The snow cover is still good in tree loops, though dirty of course. Might be icy ruts tomorrow, but Thursday afternoon and Friday should deliver more soft snow adventures before the bare patches take over.

Surprisingly good conditions with an early start, but definitely getting slow by 11:00. Skated on a 4.5K loop (man-made snow obviously), and the classic looked decent as well. Still some very nice skiing to be had; get it while you can.
