North Star Ski Touring Club Announces Major Gift to the Loppet Foundation
The North Star Ski Touring Club (NSSTC) recently provided a gift of $20,000 to the Loppet Foundation to help finance construction of the Adventure Welcome Center at Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis.
The Adventure Center is designed to be a hub for outdoor activities for the entire Twin Cities area. It will have a central gathering space, a bike and ski shop, a café, and locker room facilities. It will be a learning and staging area for skiing and biking and will serve as the jumping off point for activities like cross-country skiing, mountain biking, hiking, tubing and snowboarding. The hope is to begin construction this spring with the official opening of the Adventure Center in late fall or early winter of this year.
NSSTC President Lee Wenzel had this to say about the gift: "We want to nurture our relationship with the Loppet Foundation and further efforts to provide for outdoor recreation opportunities, especially cross-country skiing. The Foundation’s focus on silent sports outdoor recreation education and training complements our club’s focus on the experience of outdoor recreation trips. By working together, both organizations can succeed in doing what they do best."
This donation is far and away the single largest financial gift to an organization in the 49-year history of the North Star Ski Touring Club. NSSTC is proud to support the Loppet Foundation in this project and looks forward to an exciting and collaborative future both celebrating and promoting the joys of outdoor silent sports.
