  • Full Time Nordic Ski Coach and Admissions Counselor: Univ of Maine-Presque Isle (Presque Isle, ME):
    The University of Maine at Presque Isle is seeking a Full-Time Nordic Ski Coach and Admissions Counselor. The ideal applicant would be capable of and committed to competing with the top ski programs in the US. The combination of strong coaching leadership, early snow, training at one of the top Nordic skiing venues in North America, and a community that is very supportive of skiing, have helped send several athletes in this young program to NCAA Championships. We are looking for a coach to build on that early success and turn that into a tradition. This dual-position will also work as an Admissions Counselor, who aids in the marketing of the University's academic programs to students from area schools through presentations, personal visits, and interpersonal communication. Admissions commitments, including recruitment from the Nordic program, will be most extensive outside the competition season.

  • Assistant Nordic Coach: St. Lawrence University (Canton, NY):
    St. Lawrence University is currently seeking applicants for a Graduate Assistant Coach for Men's & Women's Nordic Ski. This 9-month position (August 15, 2017 - May 15, 2018) is targeted toward graduate students seeking a master's degree.

  • Head Coach Marathon Canoe/Kayak: Rice Creek Boat Club (New Brighton, MN):
    Head coach is responsible for planning, coaching and leadership/management of the clubs established +10 year marathon canoe/kayak programs. Boats (C1, C2, C4 and K1) are marathon canoe style. Primary responsibilities are in spring and summer with limited club business and planning in off season. Position is +3 hours per week in spring and +10 hours per week in summer (plus time for trips to training and racing events).

  • Head Coach Sprint Canoe/Kayak: Rice Creek Boat Club (New Brighton, MN):
    Head coach is responsible for planning, coaching and leadership/management of the clubs established +10 year sprint canoe/kayak programs. Boats (C1, C2, K1, K2, and K4) are Olympic style. Primary responsibilities are in spring and summer with limited club business and planning in off season. Position is +5 hours per week in spring and +12 hours per week in summer (plus trips to training and racing events). RCBC is able to fund coach training, such as ICF (International Coach Certification) as well.

  • Programming Director/Head Junior Coach: Endurance United (St. Paul, MN):
    The Programming Director is to oversee all aspects of Endurance United's athletic programming. They will work with the Executive Director to plan, implement, advertise and manage Endurance's programs designed for participants of all ages: youth, juniors and adults.

  • Head Nordic Ski Coach: Michigan Tech University (Houghton, MI):
    Michigan Tech University is seeking candidates to take over the role as head Nordic ski coach. Apply online.

  • Adventure Camp Counselor: Loppet Foundation (Minneapolis, MN):
    This position is responsible for the safety and well-being of 8-10 kids ages 8-13 along with a co-counselor. You will be expected to introduce and develop skills in mountain biking, rollerskiing, canoeing, orienteering, capture the flag, ultimate frisbee and other outdoor adventures. Camp is based in Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis. There is setup and cleanup at the start and end of every camp day. Enthusiasm, responsibility and work ethic are important to this job.   • Development Director: American Birkebeiner (Hayward, WI):
    The Birkie is seeking applicants for the role of Development Director. The position is responsible for facets of fundraising, membership, outreach, sustainer programs, honor wall, and grant submissions.

  • Head Nordic Coach: Minnetonka High School (Minnetonka, MN):
    Minnetonka High School is seeking candidates for the position of head Nordic ski coach.

  • Director of Ski Operations: Leo J Martin Ski Track (Weston, MA):
    Metro Boston's Leo J Martin Ski Track (LJM), managed by the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), seeks a Director of Ski Operations. The position is a 6-month seasonal position, with potential future opportunities for year-round employment. The LJM Director of Ski Operations will plan, coordinate, and direct the operations of the cross-country ski track including snowmaking, grooming, race course set-up, coordination with user groups, marketing and community outreach, and special events. Located just outside Boston in the suburb of Weston, MA, LJM is one of the busiest cross country ski areas in the country. The facility is home to: Cambridge Sports Union (CSU); Harvard's ski team; the largest youth ski program in New England (Eastern Mass Bill Koch); youth programs through Boston Youth Enrichment Services (YES) and the Boys & Girls Club; adaptive ski programs; and more than a dozen high school cross-country ski teams. LJMs 15km trail system has long featured extensive snowmaking as well as lighting for night-time skiing. Over the past year substantial additional investments have been made in snowmaking, grooming, and lighting. Chequamegon Champ Steve Tilford Passes Away

MTB pioneer, World, US National and Chequamegon champion Steve Tilford was killed in a car accident Wednesday morning in eastern Utah. Tilford was a frequent competitor of the Chequamegon 40, including three victories.

John Harju Passes Away
January 11, 2017
Sad news from the Northland: John Harju, son of Erkki Harju, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 9th in Two Harbors. Vistation scheduled for Friday evening with funeral service Saturday afternoon in Two Harbors.

John Holmquist Passes Away

North Star Ski Touring Club legend John Holmquist passes last Saturday, Nov 19th. Holmquist was a Birkie founder and in 2012 won the Tim Knopp award for his dedication to both Nordic skiing and the club.

Jean Cecil Passes On
October 29, 2016
Jean Cecil, one of the founders of BJ's Ski Shop and mother to Birkie champion Lynne Cecil, passed away last week. Cecil was well known in the cycling and Nordic skiing communities, and helped in the development of the Minnesota Youth Ski League.

Joe Nowak Passes Away
October 28, 2016
Longtime Cloquet Nordic ski coach Joe Nowak passed away on Thursday evening. Nowak was considered the founder of Pine Valley and coached many state championship teams for Cloquet. He was elected to the Minnesota Nordic Ski Coaches Hall of Fame in 1978. A complete obituary with details of services should be published on Sunday.

At the CXC/USSA Wayne Fish Coaches Conference last weekend, the Chairman's Awards were presented, honoring some big contributions by individuals from the Midwest. The Igor Badamshin Coach of the Year award went to NMU's Sten Fjeldheim, Craig Jarvinen was named volunteer of the year, John Hugus Leadership award went to the Loppet's John Munger, and Dennis Kruse was recognized with the Tony Wise Lifetime Achievement Award.

Osseo Coach Brad Rosch Passes Away

Breaking news Tuesday evening, long-time Osseo high school Nordic coach Brad Rosch suffered a heart attack on Saturday and passed away Tuesday afternoon. Rosch lead a number of squads to the State Meet and helped develop many great skiers including Matt Liebsch and Sarah Bezdicek. Services will be Tuesday morning, Oct 4th at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with a celebration of life ceremony 3 pm at Elm Creek.
