FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Duluth Biathlon Day is a Success
On Saturday, May 25 from noon to four o’clock, the Duluth Biathlon Education Association hosted a Biathlon Open House at the Snowflake Nordic Ski Center. There was a fair turnout of about 15 people, ranging from 9 to 16 years old. One boy had come all the way from Cloquet to take part in the day’s activities. After an introductory game of Ultimate Frisbee, the group was split into two parts according to age (9-12, 13-16) for some strength/agility exercises, which included dips, pull-ups, and the 10 hop test. The tests serve to measure personal gain during the summer and fall. When the testing was complete, the athletes headed out to the shooting range for some basic instruction and time to become acquainted with the rifles. The Duluth Biathlon team and several of the helping coaches were able to volunteer enough rifles for the event so that no one needed to double up on rifles, and everyone received more personalized instruction when shooting. When everyone had received proper shooting instruction, a short running biathlon race was held. Winning the race was Jake Cavanaugh from Cloquet.
The Duluth Biathlon Open House was organized by Bjorn Bakken and Gary Colliander. The event would also not have been possible without the help of Susanne Bakken, Corey Salmela, Chad Salmela, Grant Ernhardt, and the entire Duluth Biathlon team.
Duluth Biathlon Education Association T-shirts are also for sale ($18 Long Sleeve, $12 Short Sleeve). Contact Bjorn or Susanne Bakken: (218) 728-2564
