Cook makes run for gold in final loop
Soleftea, Sweden -- In the final day of the Swedish Nationals, Annelies Cook of
Saranac Lake, NY would let it come down to the final shooting stage of
today's Women's 18 Individual event. Cook who was skiing just off of the
lead pace set by Finland's Mervi Markkanen would need clean shooting to take
over the lead. One miss would not be enough to seal the win putting Cook 30
seconds out from first. Cook would finish in second place 24 seconds back.
Missy Gadacz of Elk River, MN would record the top shooting score hitting 13
of 15 targets to finish in 6th place, followed by teammate Sonne Nordgren of
Stillwater, MN in 7th place. Emilia Demarchis of Colchester, VT and Syverine
Abrahamson would round out the top 10 placing 9th and 10th. Jana Eidem of
Bloomington, MN finished in 16th place.
In the Men's 18 event, Kurt Farchmin of Duluth, MN would lead a strong
American showing, working through gusting winds to hit 11 of 15 targets to
finish in 5th place. Teammate Evan Ray of St. Paul, MN would arrive 13
seconds later in 6th place with 9 of 15 shooting. Steve Scott, St. Paul, MN
and Bjorn Baaken of Duluth, MN would finish in 8th and 12th place. In the
Men's 16 event, Grand Rapids, MN native Ben Byrne struggled in the range
hitting 5 of 10 to finish in 14th place. In the Men's 20 event, Anders
Osthus of Duluth, MN would struggle with swirling winds missing 7 of his
first 10 shots, but would battle back hitting 8 of his final 10 shots to
finish in 9th place.
