U.S. International Summer Biathlon Race Series:
Cameron's stay on podium shortened

Heber City, UT - At the site of the upcoming Winter Olympic Games, athletes from around the nation as well as the Ukraine came together to take part in the areas first International Summer Biathlon Race Series. Teams representing the U.S. Summer and Winter National Teams, U.S. Jr. National Team, Minnesota Biathlon and the Ukrainian National Team all participated in today's Mass Start event.

U.S. National Team member Lawton Redman shuffled back and forth between 1st and 2nd place throughout the race only to distance himself on his final shooting to gain the win. Second place was Shaun Marshall Pryde of the U.S. Summer National Team who had to battle with Minnesota's Ryan Cameron the entire last loop. Cameron finished in 3rd, but was penalized 1 minute for deviating from the course after one of his shooting stages. The penalty cost Cameron two places. Surging to the finish and hitting 17 of his 20 shots was Dan Campbell of Hastings, MN to finish in 8th place. Ben Kremer of Elk River fought off a last minute charge by Marc Shepard of Bozeman, MT to take 11th place and Minnetonka's Andy Erickson finished in 16th place.

Ukraine's Olena Petrova was the only competitor from her team racing today, but she represented well by winning the Women's race well ahead of the field. Petrova is consistently one of the top 10 Women in the world. 1998 Olympians Kara Salmela of Duluth, MN and Debbie Nordyke of Day, NY would battle for 2nd place on the final loop. Salmela shot on to the wrong target earlier in the race giving her five penalties alone in that one stage, would not be able to catch Nordyke as they would finish in 2nd and 3rd place. U.S. National Team Members Andrea Narhgang of Wayzata and Jill Krause of St. Cloud finished in 5th and 6th place.

Racing will resume this weekend with two rollerski races. A Sprint Race with two shootings will be held on Saturday and a Pursuit Race with the start based off of Saturday's results on Sunday.
