SIX MIDWEST ATHLETES QUALIFY FOR U.S. JUNIOR SKI TEAM TRIPS AT U.S.
NATIONALS IN MCCALL, ID
McCall, ID --
Six Midwest cross-country skiers qualified for international trips with
the U.S. Ski team this week in competitions at Senior Nationals in
McCall, ID. Sten Fjeldheim at NMU continued his Midas touch as Midwest
regional elite team athletes Jordan Seethaler and Rachel Daw made the
World Junior team that heads to Poland January 21. Lindsay Weier,
Lindsay Williams, Dan Skold and Adriaan Ostrander all
qualified for the J1 trip that heads to Finland on January 22nd. All
four are members of the Midwest
regional elite team and the Community Olympic Development Program.
Weier skis for Mahtomedi
H.S., Williams for Hastings H.S, and Skold for Hopkins high school. All
three athletes work with
the Brochman-Wilson Nordic Program. Ostrander is a Wisconsin State
Champion from Hayward H.S..
Over 300 junior atheletes participated at the U.S. Nationals.
The World Junior and J1 teams were named today at the end of competition
at U.S. Nationals in McCall,
Idaho. The World Junior team will be eligible for NCCSEF Future Fund
grants up to $750 per athlete.
The top J1 athletes receive grants to cover their airfare and the rest
of the J1 trip participants are
eligible for $300 per athlete to help with the cost of the trip.
Grant applications are available on-line at www.nccsef.org, and need to
be completed and returned to the NCCSEF office by
January 15, 2001.
