Maplelag
is a destination cross-country ski resort and conference center
located just 20 miles from Detroit Lakes in NW Minnesota.
More than a dozen of their unique cabins, including a "switch
yard" with two converted sleeping cabooses, stand within the
maple-basswood climax forest next to Little Sugarbush Lake.
Following
a fire in 1999, the main lodge has been rebuilt and is now
open, again housing the famous bottomless cookie jars and
stained glass windows. Meals are served family-style in
the lodge dining hall, and special events such as the Saturday
night variety show and dance are always a favorite. A feeling
of community and warmth is created by the layout of the
lodge and cabins. The new lodge also has several meeting
rooms, making Maplelag an ideal conference center or reunion
location.
Expertly
groomed, private trails extend for 60km through the woods
surrounding Maplelag, and guests can take advantage of a
ski rental equipment as well as ski lessons. Other winter
activities such as Kicksledding, ice skating, snowshoeing,
and ice fishing are also available. Maplelag features the
state's largest hot tub, along with saunas and steam rooms,
and massage therapists are available after a day of play
in the snow.
