New Website Guide
Welcome to the new skinnyski.com web site!
Here is an outline of some of the major highlights and changes
in the new web site.
- New menu/navigation system
This is probably the first thing you may have noticed. The new
site uses a dual menu system. The top menu bar now contains the
major categories. Once you have entered a major category, the
sidebar menu will contain subsections within that category. For
example, the major section Trails has a sidebar menu of Feature,
Reports, Ski Trails, Rollerski Trails. And within some of those
sidebar sections, you'll find additional sections. Once you get
the hang of it, we think you'll find this new system even faster
and easier to navigate. Here are the new locations of some of
the main sections from the old web site:
Reports - now located in Trails
Schools - now located in Racing
Results - now located in Racing
- Enhanced text
A number of locations on our site make use of style sheets. This
fairly modern (introduced back in '97) addition to web pages allows
us to have more control over the exact look of the text layout.
If you aren't using Netscape 4.0 or higher, or Internet Explorer
4.0 or higher, you might consider upgrading. If you are using
an older browser, the web site should still work fine, but some
text attributes might not be quite as clean. If you have problems
navigating with an older browser, please let us know!
- New Feature sections
Many of the sections now start off with a new feature section
where we try to highlight some topic/event.
- New Notices section
The new notices section is our "catch all" for press releases,
postings, job listings, etc.
- New Classifieds section
The Gear section has a new subsection, Classifieds, for listing
For Sale and Wanted items.
- New photo viewer
When we posted a set of photos in the past, you'd have to labor
back and forth between viewing an image and than going back and
scrolling down to find the next image. The new web site introduces
the skinnyski.com photo viewer. This little Javascript will bring
up a separate window where can click through the images. In addition,
there is a drop-down list of all the images in the photo set so
you can quickly jump to the image you desire. And that drop-down
list may also contain captions for the photos.
- Separate window for maps and photos
Much like photo sets, when you viewed a map on the old site you
had to click back and scroll down to find the trail listing again.
Now we'll launch a separate window to view maps, external photos,
and pretty much anytime you click on a little graphic icon.
- Disclaimers and Disclosure
We've also add a general visitors agreement, a privacy statement,
advertising information, and a general information page to the
site. Please review these pages.
