* ROLLERSKI EXPO
Michael Kubes won the drawing last week for the Camelbak
Rocket, contributed locally by REI. Michael submitted the
trail listing for Lake Elmo Park Reserve. Check out more
details on the Camelbak Rocket, and other rollerskiing equipment,
in our Gear section:

* SCHOOL IS STARTING
Finn Sisu still has openings for their Sisu Skiers fall/winter
training program. The program provides on-snow coaching
in both classical and skating techniques, as well as dryland

* INTERNATIONAL ROLLERSKIING
Have you ever heard of the FIS World Rollerski Championships?
It's happening August 30-September 3 in Rotterdam, in the
Netherlands. There are a number of races, including a sprint,
team race, and even a relay! Check out the official web
site for details:
http://www.rollerski.nl
Or how about rollerskiing up l'Alpe d'Huez (infamous Tour
de France climb)? If you can read French (or translate it
using Alta Vista):

* ST. PAUL GLACIER SKIING
The Saukko Ski Club from St. Paul got a jump on the snow
skiing season with a trip earlier this month up to the Haig
Glacier in Canada. Read a report on their camp in our Training
section:

* SWAMP SPREAD
Chad Giese and his swamp workouts will be featured in the
Star Tribune's sports section on Friday, August 25th. Make
sure you pick up a newsstand copy to see the photos! The
text of the article should be on the Star Tribune web site
late Thursday night, early Friday morning:

* BIRKIE BLAST
The Birkie trail suffered some pretty serious tree damage
from a storm in mid-August. A number of sections on the
trail system have a lot of trees down. They are currently
cleaning up those sections. More details at:
http://www.birkie.com/trail_report/
* POST-LABOR DAY BLOWOUTS
Gear West and Hoigaards will both be offering substantial
sale pricing on cross-country ski equipment and a look at
some of the new equipment for this season with big kickoff
sales events, September 7th-10th. Hoigaards' Ski Sale under

* BIATHLON BUILDING
The Minnesota Biathlon group is looking for just a little
of your financial help. They are working on a timing building/warming
house at the Elk River Biathlon Range, hopefully to open
in time for the Fall Festival in Elk River: October 19-22.
They have already raised a majority of the funding, but
need some assistance to complete the project. If you are
able to support this effort, please send a donation made
out to Team Birke (building fund), and send it to Mary Ernhart,
Minnesota Biathlon Treasurer, 201 Norfolk Ave, Elk River,
MN 55330. You can e-mail Piotr Bednarski for more details:
[email protected]
* FINLANDIA CREDIT
The Minnesota Finlandia board of directors has voted to
give the 2000 year pre-registered skiers a $20 discount
on this year's event. They'll be mailing out the discount
coupons later this fall. Mark the Minn Finn on your season
calendar for a top-notch event:

* MYSTERY PHOTO
What's the answer to this week's mystery photo from the
web site? It was taken on a new trail system, tipped off
to us recently by Mike Brumbaugh, that is located between
Roselawn and Larpenteur Avenues, straddling Dale St -- tentatively
known as the Dale Street Waterworks Trail. Read more details
about this new trail system (with map and photos), along
with photos from Crosby Lake and a number of new listings
in the rollerski trail listings.
