Minnesota State High School Coaches Association Volunteer
Service Award

When you run into someone who is interested in cross country
skiing, invariably the conversation leads to the advice to
log on to SkinnySki. That advice is usually received with
a jaundiced eye and "uh-huh". Usually, a few days to a week
later one hears rave reviews from that someone about how that
is a really great site and "thanks"! This spring, a few Twin
Cities skiers took it upon themselves to honor Bruce and Margaret
Adelsman but Bruce was too modest so the event became the
1st Annual Season Ending Ski Party. Somewhat to their chagrin,
they were beaten to the punch.
At the State High School Nordic Ski meet, Thursday, February
15, 2001 Bruce Adelsman received the Volunteer Service Award
from the Minnesota Nordic Ski Coaches Association. This award
honors one individual a year who has contributed significantly
to Minnesota high school nordic ski programs.
In the nomination, Dave Johnson, Duluth East coach, said,
"Bruce Adelsman, through SkinnySki.com, made a tremendous
positive impact on high school skiing in Minnesota. He quickly
posts results from races and is more than willing to post
a large number of pictures as well. When we were looking for
results from various section meets, we didn't even bother
with traditional media, SkinnySki has become the source where
we obtain information about skiing in Minnesota."
Bruce was the overwhelming choice from a strong field of
nominees. Every nordic coach in Minnesota who has a computer
has SkinnySki bookmarked as the place to go to find whatever
information one needs to run a successful ski team. From trail
conditions to race results, to training tips and ideas on
places to bring a team for training, SkinnySki has all the
answers.
The plaque was formally presented at the Season Ending Ski
Party. Clearly, SkinnySki serves to bring the Midwest nordic
ski community together in a way we have never before experienced.
Thank you, Bruce and Margaret.
When the announcement was made last February that I
had been awarded the Volunteer Service Award from the
Minnesota High School Nordic Coaches Association, I was
very surprised. While we have increased our coverage of
high school skiing, I didn't realize the level to which
it was appreciated by the high school coaches. And when
you consider all the hundreds of other volunteers working
with high school teams across the state, it makes us very
humble.
We are deeply honored by this award, and would like
to thank the entire Coaches Association!
