Rainbow Rendezvous
Sunday, January 19, 2003
Summary by Jill Troutner, Skinnyski.com Race Team
Fresh snow on Friday made the trail system at Rainbow Resort a pristine white for the weekend. Team Schumann of Rainbow made up the difference with extra snow on any thin areas and continued to display their grooming expertise (thanks Doug and Keith!). The Rendezvous went off with a bang (good shooting by Keith). Chris Zeigler and Melinda Silbernick were a blur of grace and speed in the 10k skate and took overall honors. Of particular note is young Wesley Rogers (age 12) who attacked the 10k course and impressed all of us with his "moxie." We will be watching this young Padawan for years to come. Linda Schumann provided a post race meal that kept everyone busy and happy while results were compiled.
SPECIAL THANKS to the Medical Support (EMT Systems) from Matthew and Jennifer for giving us a safe event and their volunteer time! Awards and prizes were provided by Rainbow Resort, www.skinnyski.com, and Doyle & Mary Turner (The Turners live a few miles from Rainbow and Doyle is Tribal Chairman--thanks Chief-Team Turner Rocks!). Volunteer support came from Team Schumann and local skiers (Connie, Mary, Geri, Carolyn, Ray, Steve for timing, and Team Roman at the turnaround point on course). We look forward to making this an annual event and hosting one more race in March (TBD). Come ski with us at Rainbow Resort!

Addendum: While Overall Results were correct, the Age
Categories were a little confused by the final results team
(perhaps by their inability to agree to the same category naming
in the software?!). The Age Group Categories have been double
checked with entry forms and folks should finally be in the
right age group. To those young souls I tacked some years onto,
my sincerest apologies. The those Masters, I am proud to say
I took 10 years or more off you all and I think you should all
go out and celebrate. Again, sorry for the age group mix up
and a big Thank You to David Bjorklund of Park Rapids for dropping
me an email to let me know. I'll do better next time! Promise!
