Mora Vasaloppet Update

Snow conditions, forecast excellent for Vasaloppet weekend

Ample snow and a favorable weather forecasts holds the promise of near perfect conditions for the 37th Vasaloppet USA cross country Ski race in Mora this Sunday.

Race organizers say this year’s significant snowfall has created “excellent” course conditions. The entire Vasaloppet ski course has received multiple groomings and currently has a light covering of fresh snow that will help create an ideal course with the final grooming later this week.

The forecast for race day is sunny skies with a high of 29 on Sunday after a low of 18 degrees on Saturday night. Winds are forecast to be light from the south, southeast.

Race registrations continue to be available by fax (320-679-4840 or online (www.vasaloppet.org) until 3 p.m. Saturday. Walk-in registrations at the Vasaloppet race office in Mora are available until 9p.m. Saturday evening.

Eldris Elite Sprints

The new Eldris Sprint races will kick off at 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Vasaloppet Nordic Center. The Sprints are set on a course that circles the new Eldris Village development adjacent to the Nordic Center complex and feature a course of just less than one kilometer.

The Sprints offer a $300 first place cash prize, a $200 second place prize and $100 for third place in both men’s and women’s divisions.

Skiers interested in entering the Sprints need to contact the Vasaloppet race office at 800-368-6672 or by e-mail at [email protected] and provide results of recent races or sprints.

Waxing Clinic and Waxing Service

A ski-waxing clinic will be held on Saturday beginning at 10:30 am at the Nordic Center Garage. Continental Ski Shop of Duluth will conduct the clinic. A ski waxing service will also be available for a fee. Skis can be dropped off anytime between 10AM - 6PM for waxing.  There will also be wax, supplies and clothing for sale.
