James White Passes On

Most of the press releases that I have written involve something to be celebrated such as results of a race for Kyia or the results of races we have run as a club. This release comes with a heavy heart but does celebrate the life of someone special...

On Saturday morning July 9th, 2011 the local and regional cycling and skiing community lost a founding member, James "Crash" White. Jim was known as being a strong competitor and if he entered the race he likely was going to get an award for winning his age group. But beyond winning races his true gift was that he mentored and assisted people and kids in getting involved with the sport or having a philosophical discussion if on a long trip. Whether it was donating last year's race skis and poles to a high school skier that came from a less well-to-do family or taking young athletes to xc skiing or cycling events over the years, Jim was always willing to help out and show the way. Many of us in central MN can remember going to races with Jim and always being enamored by his spirit, sense of adventure in life and unique sense of humor.

While certainly an individual at heart he always helped out and supported the cycling and skiing community. Jim will be sorely missed by the many individuals and organizations that he touched over the years, and he can rest easily knowing that he truly impacted the lives of those around him. His passion and enthusiasm for silent sports and the enthusiasts thereof will be missed.
